After weeks of heroic effort, multiple “tuk-tuk engineering solutions,” and what can only be described as creative mechanical encouragement, and me no more a nurse/midwife but mechanic the company truck (tuk tuk) has officially entered early retirement… 😅 Me thinks!

Despite our best attempts — including tapping things, staring at it thoughtfully, and giving it a good island pep talk — the tuk tuk has decided it prefers being towed rather than driven.

Local sources confirm:
Several expert opinions were offered
None of them worked
The tow truck was the most reliable vehicle involved

On the bright side, morale remains high, and we are now considering upgrading what to I dont know. My independance has gone!

Our dentist is hard at it again. What a wonderful woman to do this work. No dentists exist here for 5 remote islands!!

More about John!❤️🙏🏻 He is off to Port Vila today for his medical checks prior to going to Australia for surgery. We are so excited for the opportunity granted for this young boy. The surgery will make such a difference in his life and future health. In Port Vila the family will be made visa ready with health checks etc then he flies to Melbourne.

Our next family are heading to Melbourne Australia. Young John will be receiving surgery for his deformity/disability on his leg.

This is the sister who is also travelling to Australia for surgery. How blessed these two are.

Once her surgery is completed, we are hopeful that she will be able to play freely, make friends, and enjoy being part of everyday life in the village. To see her walk around her village with confidence and joy will be something very special.

Preparation for our first family to come to Australia for the children’s surgery. So excited for these two children to be given the opportunity to walk. So we have brought them into Lenakel town and on Friday travel to Port Bila for health checks prior to flying to Canberra.

The Loanialu Health Clinic in Tanna Island - Vanuatu

The Story

Having seen the lack of basic healthcare first hand, Jeannie and her husband Warren built an Aid Post at Loanialu in 2013 with the combined assistance from Rotary Toowoomba and Mitsukaido, Japan. 3 years later on 26 June 2016, the Vanuatu Government upgraded its status to a Medical Dispensary in recognition of the nursing care given to the community. This was exciting news for the Committee as it recognised the significant improvement in the health of these communities and encouraged us to advance the work of The Loanialu Health Clinic.
