Even the littlest kids deserve a say in the world around them – according to experts from across the globe, it’s a crucial change we can make to help kids experience better mental and social health throughout their lives.

But adults can often find it tricky to know how to bring kids along for the journey.

That’s why the Murdoch Children's Research Institute - MCRI developed the Voice of the Child toolkit.

The free toolkit is available from their website and includes best practice guidelines and scientifically-backed resources to help adults in a variety of roles engage with children and young people.

As part of the ongoing development process, we’re partnering with Minderoo Foundation and Polyglot Theatre to engage kids aged 12 and under in health, education and creative settings to provide feedback on the toolkit.

You can download the toolkit and find out more about the ongoing development process here: https://ccch.org.au/news/2025/hearing-and-valuing-young-voices/

Did you know our Kitchen Connections survey – which asked 500 Victorian children aged 4 to 12 about getting involved in food-related activities – revealed around 9 in 10 enjoy learning about where food comes from and even want to help pack their own school lunchboxes?

Well, we’ve heard the kids loud and clear, which is why we created our pop-up Secret World of Food activation and made it available for local councils and community groups to use for free.

This past school holidays, City of Greater Geelong and Geelong Regional Libraries took us up on the offer and brought the activation to three libraries in the area to give little ones and their families a hands-on experience with the food cycle.

Kids learned about growing, delivering, buying, selling, cooking and reusing food

We’re thrilled to have partnered with the City of Greater Geelong and Geelong Regional Libraries to bring the Secret World of Food to more young people, and spark conversations about where food comes from.

Find out more about the Secret World of Food and how you can bring this immersive experience to your local community here: https://www.vichealth.vic.gov.au/programs-projects/campaigns-initiatives/secret-world-of-food-activation-available-to-use

Racism isn’t just a personal experience - it’s structural, embedded in our everyday lives, and affects people’s access to care and good health.

It can show up in many ways, including through medical staff misdiagnosing or delaying treatment due to a lack of understanding of specific needs for communities that experience racism and in unequal access to healthcare, education and housing.

There are still many myths and misconceptions that cloud our understanding of racism. That’s why Australian Human Rights Commission has released new factsheets that debunk these common misunderstandings and offer practical ways we can challenge racism.

Ever stood in the children’s food aisle, scanning rows of pouches, puffs and snacks, wondering what’s actually good for your little one? Well, we want to hear from you.

Together with Generation Victoria - GenV and Food for Health Alliance, we’ve asked some families to share their experience with convenient, store-bought meals and snacks designed for kids.

Gen V, Australia’s largest child and parent research program, has sent registered parents a survey form - filling it out is quick and what you share could make a huge difference.

4,000 parents have already had a say to help make supermarket shelves healthier, improve the food options available to families and even influence future policies.

The survey closes on July 21, so there’s still time to be heard.

Check your inbox and find out more about Gen V’s first focus survey here: https://www.genv.org.au/blog/spotlight-on-genv/food-survey/

When we say that sport can be a vehicle for driving good change – this is exactly what we mean.

We’re proud to be supporting the Carlton Football Club's Carlton Respects game this weekend.

For the last decade, Carlton has used this game as a platform to reset the standard when it comes to women’s safety at home, work and in the community.

See you at the ‘G.

Australian governments spend as much as $29 billion every single year treating and supporting Australians living with preventable diseases.

That’s a bit over 18 times the net worth of Taylor Swift.

It’s not just the financial cost – living with a preventable disease like type 2 diabetes, lung cancer or liver disease means a shorter, less enjoyable life for individuals, too, and it’s tough on their families.

That’s why we back preventative healthcare for everyone.

A little investment now – whether it’s time or money – saves a lot down the track.

Check out the Centre for Policy Development's new report on why we should invest in prevention here: https://cpd.org.au/work/avoidable-costs/

Pride in who you are, pride in where you’ve come from, pride in what you will achieve – it's all crucial for strong mental health.

And it’s what Indigenous All-Stars Basketball is focused on fostering the next generation of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander superstars.

Ahead of the Federal Government’s Productivity Summit, we’ve been doing some big thinking about how investing in preventative healthcare over the long term will make our country a better, more resilient, and more productive place to live, work and play.

Ever wanted to pop a wheelie on a basketball court?

Well, the Ultimate Wheelchair Basketball Experience isn’t quite your chance.

But it is an opportunity for people involved in sports and recreation in Victoria to learn more about how they can make it easier for people in wheelchairs to get involved in their activity.

You’ll have the opportunity to try navigating the State Basketball Centre in a wheelchair, enjoy a lunch and learn session with guest speakers from Disability Sports Australia, Reclink Australia, and Sports4All – and yes, you’ll even be able to try your wheels at wheelchair basketball.

We’re proud to be bringing this important learning opportunity to life alongside Vicsport and Basketball Victoria
