CONCERTS: Attending a concert could boost your mood and social connections. Thereโ€™s nothing like singing along, dancing, sharing in good memories and soaking up the โ€˜positive energyโ€™ of a concert with friends and family ๐Ÿ˜Š.
๐ŸŒ€ How do I get started: Check out your local paper, venues or local council websites for free concerts in your local area. Browse venues and events on social media or websites like Humanitix, Ticketmaster, Ticketek, Scenestr, Scoop, etc.
๐ŸŒ€ How do I attend: Find a concert you would like to see and invite a friend or family member to join you. Book your tickets (even free events may need a ticket). Plan your trip, and a meeting point in case you get separated from friends and family at the concert. Check if there is any event information or venue rules (e.g. can you bring a water bottle? Are there bag size limits?).
๐ŸŒ€ More ways to enjoy live music: Host a โ€˜concert nightโ€™ at home โ€” make your own music or stream a live concert. Support community concerts and local bands at nearby venues.

REMEMBER: You donโ€™t have to be good at art for the arts to be good for you. Do the art that makes YOU feel GOOD. TRY for two hours per week. It could make a difference to your mental health. Good Arts, Good Mental Health.

๐ŸŽจ๐Ÿ›๏ธ ART GALLERIES & MUSEUMS: Are you curious about art galleries and museums? Would you like to visit but donโ€™t know how? A gallery/museum visit can be great for your mental wellbeing and a lovely way to spend time with family and friends. Below are some useful tips:

๐Ÿ›๏ธHow do you get started: To plan a visit, go to the gallery/museum website for opening times, news, events, exhibition details or to book a tour, talk or art class (see last dot point for some gallery/museum names). You could also check your local paper for whatโ€™s on in your area, follow galleries/museums on social media or join a gallery/museum mailing list.

๐Ÿ›๏ธWhat to do when you get there: Have fun ๐Ÿ˜Š Look for things that interest you. Maybe have a coffee or lunch at the gallery cafe.

๐Ÿ›๏ธThings to note: The staff are there to help you, so feel free to ask questions if you arenโ€™t sure about something. Most art galleries and museums have free entry, but for some special exhibitions you may have to buy a ticket. You may be asked to check in big bags/backpacks. Most galleries/museums do not allow food and drinks near artworks.

๐Ÿ›๏ธAs a starting point, GAGMH staff have visited and recommend: WA Museum Boola Bardip (Perth), Fremantle Arts Centre, NGVโ€™s Yayoi Kusama exhibition (Melbourne, on until 21 April 2025), AGSAโ€™s Radical Textiles exhibition (Adelaide, on until 30 March 2025), WA Maritime Museum (Fremantle), Perth Institute of Contemporary Arts, Geraldton Regional Art Gallery, Mona (Hobart).

REMEMBER: You donโ€™t have to be good at art for the arts to be good for you. Do the art that makes YOU feel GOOD. TRY for two hours per week. It could make a difference to your mental health. Good Arts, Good Mental Health.

SINGING: Do you want to give singing a go? Singing could enhance your mood, is great for relaxation, stress relief and building social connections.๐ŸŽผ๐ŸŽ™

๐ŸŽคMost of us already love to sing to our favourite songs, so why not start here. Pick three songs that make you feel good and make a time this week to sing them intentionally. You could sing at home, when driving to work or the shops, while doing chores etc.

๐ŸŽคLow cost and no cost options: You could join a community singing group or local choir and enjoy the benefits of connecting with others. You could also enrol in singing lessons or watch free tutorials online.

REMEMBER: You donโ€™t have to be good at art for the arts to be good for you. Do the art that makes YOU feel GOOD. TRY for two hours per week. It could make a difference to your mental health. Good Arts, Good Mental Health.

WRITING: Have you thought about giving writing a go? Writing is a great way to express yourself and has been linked with relaxation and mental wellbeing. โœ๏ธ

๐Ÿ“š Start with a pen, journal or a simple notebook โ€“ starting is low cost.
๐Ÿ“š You could try writing about how you feel or you could write a short story about your day, a song, poem, or even a letter to your future self.
๐Ÿ“š Get inspired by something simple: the view from your window, a random word, or a memory from childhood.
๐Ÿ“š If you arenโ€™t sure how to start you could try a creative writing class, join a local writing group or online workshop.

REMEMBER: You donโ€™t have to be good at art for the arts to be good for you. Do the art that makes YOU feel GOOD. TRY for two hours per week. It could make a difference to your mental health. Good Arts, Good Mental Health. ๐Ÿ“

NATURE ART: Have you thought about making something inspired by nature? Nature art can boost your mental wellbeing, relaxation, connection to others and give you time in the natural environment.
๐ŸŒณ You could collect leaves, flowers, feathers, sand, sticks, rocks and other items and use them in your arts and craft. ๐Ÿ€๐Ÿ๐ŸŒน๐ŸŒผ
๐ŸŒณ Why not try making a mindful mandala from sand, flowers or leaves. You could even create a sculpture out of rocks and pebbles.
๐ŸŒณ Printing with flowers and leaves can be relaxing or you could paint a rock and leave it for a friend to find. ๐ŸŽจ
๐ŸŒณ Art supplies like paint, paper, coloured pencils, glue and crayons donโ€™t need to be expensive. You can usually find art supplies at your local supermarket or op shop. ๐ŸŽจ
๐ŸŒณ Nature art projects are a perfect way to spend quality time with friends and family.

REMEMBER: You donโ€™t have to be good at art for the arts to be good for you. Do the art that makes YOU feel GOOD. TRY for two hours per week. It could make a difference to your mental health. Good Arts, Good Mental Health.
