Are you struggling to adjust to life after cancer?

Surviving breast cancer can be a confusing time. You feel elated to have finished treatment but at the same time you might also be feeling…
- Alone?
- Missing the old you?
- Confused?
- Exhausted?
- Overwhelmed?

You very quickly realise that the end of treatment is not the end of your cancer journey. You are constantly trying to make sense of why you are feeling so unhappy, alone and lost.

Does this sound familiar???

You are not alone! These experiences are extremely common, with many breast cancer survivors feeling isolated and underprepared for life after breast cancer.

As a breast cancer survivor myself I understand how physically, mentally and emotionally exhausting living in the aftermath of cancer treatment can be. At times I struggled to recognise the person I was. Every day I faced a wave of emotions and I found it difficult to embrace the new direction that my life had taken

I felt lost!!!

I worked on finding a balance between surviving and living. I found ways to build the best version of myself and to live a meaningful and purposeful life.
I developed Beyond Breast Cancer to share my experience and to provide support, education and empowerment to other breast cancer survivors.

I am now offering on online version of my workshop series Beyond Breast Cancer: WHO AM I NOW? This program has been designed exclusively for breast cancer survivors and includes 6 interactive online workshops (ZOOM) based on the science of positive psychology.

Each workshop is crafted to support your journey in navigating life beyond treatment. Over 6 weekly workshops:

Surviving breast cancer is amazing BUT being a breast cancer survivor can be tough!

I thought finishing treatment for breast cancer would be the happiest day of my life. I didn’t realise how difficult and confusing being a breast cancer survivor could be.

Yes, I felt relieved that treatment was over BUT I also felt alone and overwhelmed. I was physically, mentally, and emotionally exhausted!!

I wanted to get back to my ‘normal’ life but too much had changed, and I didn’t know where to start. I struggled to recognise the person I was anymore.

I felt lost!!

What I didn’t realise at the time, was that I was not alone and that many other survivors were on the same emotional rollercoaster.

So why are so many of us struggling?

Both the prevalence and survival rates of breast cancer has increased over the last 10 years. This means that there are now more survivors than ever before living in the aftermath of breast cancer treatment. Unfortunately, I have also discovered that there is very little support for survivors in adjusting to life after treatment, which is why we can feel so alone.

In the last few years, since I finished my treatment, I have made it my mission to research and practice strategies that enhance my emotional and mental wellbeing. I started Beyond Breast Cancer to offer support, education, and empowerment to other breast cancer survivors. The programs that I have developed are based on positive psychology research and my own personal breast cancer journey.

I will be launching the first Beyond Breast Cancer program very soon. Watch this space for more details.

My name is Fiona Morrison and I am a passionate advocate for providing support to breast cancer survivors. I have qualifications in health promotion, education (primary teaching) and positive psychology BUT more importantly I am also a breast cancer survivor.

In the past, I have experienced my own struggles with living in the aftermath of breast cancer treatment. When I finished treatment all I wanted was to be the person I was before breast cancer but at the same time I knew I would never be the same again. I was left feeling very lost and confused about who I was. I realised in survivorship that focusing on my mental and emotional wellbeing was equally as important as my physical recovery.

After connecting with others who had similar battles, I decided to combine my lived experience of breast cancer with the principles of positive psychology and develop wellbeing programs for breast cancer survivors. My hope is that Beyond Breast Cancer will provide wellbeing programs that will support, educate and empower other survivors to find meaning in life and to evolve from surviving to living and thriving.
