Everyone has felt the energy shift over the last few years but how do we deal with it?

What is Serotonin? Why do we need it?

We have all heard of Serotonin and know that it has something to do with how we feel, but what is Serotonin and what does it do?

🧠 Serotonin is a chemical that is made in our bodies nerve cells. It is produced during a chemical reaction with a protein called Tryptophan.

🧠 Why do we want to increase Serotonin levels ?

Serotonin is found all over the body and assists with blood vessel contractions and transmitting information throughout the nervous system. Serotonin is functionally responsible for regulation of mood, memory recall, sleep, behaviour, regulating circadian rhythms, regulation of pain and controlling appetite.
Low levels of Serotonin can cause changes to mood, depression, anxiety, insomnia, aggression, low pain tolerance, libido and memory.

🧠 How can we increase Serotonin levels in our body?

Tryptophan can be found in foods such as Salmon, Chicken, Eggs, Seeds and Nuts. Eating these foods can help increase Serotonin levels. Exersize also plays a key role in the production of Serotonin.

My Story

There is always room for improvement!

I have to be honest I have not always been as health conscious as I should have, I think this is one of the things that makes me stand apart from some other Naturopaths. I have let loose, and made some great memories, but have always tried to maintain balance. I understand the struggle of change and how hard it can be do give up something. I still struggle with my addiction to potato chips now, ask my partner lol!

My mother has always been a good role model for me as a child, she always cooked healthy, nutritious meals, and would explain the importance of healthy eating. I of course did not always act on this knowledge, but it was always in the back of my mind. Then when i became a mother it all became clear, what she was trying to achieve, she wanted me to be healthy and live a long, happy life. Its funny how one little person can change so much of your life in an instant. I wanted to be there for him and watch him grow, while teaching him, as my mum did for me. I soon realised, being a mum was going to be the hardest job I ever had.

I have always enjoyed being close to nature, especially the beach. I still enjoy a wine or beer watching the sunset. Its a happy place, where I can rub my feet in the sand and feel at one with the earth. It reminds me of how nature can heel, both physically and emotionally.
