This week we are presenting and exhibiting at the 35th Annual ASCIA conference in Brisbane.

Today, we had the opportunity to update ASCIA conference delegates about National Allergy Council program outcomes. Dr Michael O’Sullivan, ASCIA president, presented a summary of the Deloitte Costly Reactions: The economic and social cost of allergic disease in Australia report. We also shared important updates about our shared care, food allergy prevention, schools and children’s education and care, and antibiotic allergy programs. Our program co-leads representing Australasian Society of Clinical Immunology and Allergy and Allergy & Anaphylaxis Australia joined the Q&A panel discussion.

The National Allergy Council met with MPs at Parliament House last week to raise awareness about allergic disease in Australia. The new Costly Reactions: The economic and social cost of allergic disease in Australia report found that an estimated 8.2 million Australians now live with allergic disease, leading to mounting costs and unprecedented demand for allergy services. Ongoing investment in the National Allergy Council and National Allergy Centre of Excellence programs is essential to reduce the burden of allergic disease for millions of Australians.

“It’s an area of health that hasn’t, in the past, had the attention it deserved. I’m pleased that more recently a lot of great work is being done to help diagnose, treat and care for people who suffer from allergic reactions. And this is supported by fantastic research.” – Assistant Minister for Health Rebecca White MP said at today’s allergy showcase at Parliament House.

To raise awareness about allergic disease in Australia, we launched the Costly Reactions: The economic and social cost of allergic disease in Australia report, alongside researchers, clinicians and families.

It’s the second day of the APNA - Australian Primary Health Care Nurses Association Festival of Nursing conference in Brisbane! The National Allergy Council is here with Australasian Society of Clinical Immunology and Allergy and Allergy & Anaphylaxis Australia. We are having many engaging conversations with primary health care nurses who play an important role in caring for people with allergies. Visit our stand to learn more about our evidence-based best practice resources.

We ran an interactive education session yesterday on Navigating Allergies: A primary health care 101 guide. We used case-based learning to update participants about allergic conditions, recognition and treatment of severe allergic reactions (anaphylaxis), and management of food allergy.
