📢 Medicare Update for Families – From 1 March 2026

Great news for families accessing speech pathology services.

From 1 March 2026, changes to the Medicare Benefits Schedule (MBS) mean the following conditions are now recognised as eligible for Medicare support:

• Stuttering
• Speech sound disorders
• Cleft lip and/or palate

What does this mean for you?

✔️ Medicare provides benefits for up to 8 allied health assessment sessions per lifetime under eligible MBS items
✔️ Medicare provides benefits for up to 20 allied health treatment sessions per lifetime

These changes increase access to assessment, diagnosis and evidence-based therapy for children and young adults with speech difficulties.
