Mobile CCTV units were redeployed yesterday to Dreamworld Parkway Coomera and to Highland Reserve Upper Coomera in an effort to increase public safety, deter antisocial behaviour, protect community assets and assist Police where necessary.

I'm sometimes criticised for highlighting the locations, but if knowing the location slows down one speedster or deters one piece of graffiti, I'm happy!

Work commences this week at Amberwood Reserve Upper Coomera to renew Council's electrical infrastructure which is at end of life. The work will progress through mid-April subject to weather and site conditions and involves excavation for the new switchboard and a new concrete slab. Apologies for any inconvenience.

Temporary connection arrangements will maintain supply where required, and your patience during the work is appreciated.

HOW BIZARRE … today a Mayoral Minute putting councillors on new committees - some not supported by representatives and Committee Chairs but supported by the majority of councillors. The Bulletin has reported me to be “transitioning” from leadership roles. This is not the case - I simply did not want to be anyone’s deputy.

There are minor issues that always need attention across the Division and several have been addressed today. Officers have been requested to remove illegal advertising signage across Upper Coomera and replace the “Keep left” sign in the centre median of Turnbull Drive heading towards the Billinghurst Crescent roundabout. Potholes seem to multiply every time it rains and repairs at Stone Creek Estate, Highland Reserve and Upper Coomera have been requested. The street sweeper will also focus on Billinghurst & Old Coach Road this week – and address a road sealing problem on Wongawallan Drive. The low lying nature of the Tallowwood Leash Free Dog Park often causes issues with mowing, but it’s presently in good shape.

Today City of Gold Coast councillors received a legal briefing on the Nucrush Oxenford Quarry Appeal against Council’s 2021 Refusal.

I’m aware of the impact on residents of Riverstone Crossing and Charlie’s Crossing and want to assure everyone that the position taken in 2021 will continue to be defended by Council.

Council has resolved to proceed to trial on the strongest reasons for its refusal, with the Court to decide whether the Refusal is upheld, or the Applicant Appeal is successful.

Most of today’s presentation was in closed session due to legal privilege, however Council unanimously supported taking the strongest possible case forward to provide the best chance of stopping the expansion. Go to Naomi Fowler, Division 2, Gold Coast for the summary put forward today by the area representative, Cr Naomi Fowler.

MURAL LAUNCH Highland Reserve State School

What a start to the day with the students of Highland Reserve State School celebrating their new mural as part of the City of Gold Coast Active Travel Program.
It was an exceptional morning with amazing student participation and thanks must go to the teaching staff and Principal, Mrs Stride, because the success of this program relies heavily on teacher support – and that could not have been stronger at Highland Reserve. Congratulations.

Gold Coast emergency departments are among the busiest in Australia, supporting thousands of residents and families each year. The Gold Coast Hospital Foundation's Giving Day on 25 March raises vital funds to support our hospitals and health precincts.

All donations are currently being doubled, making each contribution go even further for patients and families in need.

If you are able, please consider supporting this important cause at www.gcdonate.org.au
