Urunga parkrun

Our incredible Pim has been named as a finalist in the Sport & Recreation category at the Bellingen Council's community awards to be held later this week.

This category recognises " bringing people together and making our Shire a more healthy and inclusive place ".

Many of you have seen Pim sacrifice her run on a Saturday morning to fill a needed vollie spot but no one sees the immense time and effort she puts in behind the scenes to ensure that we can all enjoy our weekly parkrun fix.

Even while Urunga parkrun has been on holidays, Pim has still been at work; coordinating on a regular basis with parkrun HQ, the landowners and the council to make sure that everything is in place for us to hit the ground running as soon as council gives the green light. 🏃🏃‍♀️

We've had a few logistical issues to get us going again, so at this stage we are hoping for a return in early March. Watch this space!!!

It's been a quiet year for Urunga parkrun, but we hope to be back sometime in January. Of course, this will depend on when the work to the Boardwalk upgrade finishes (it's looking amazing btw 😃).

☝️Good question!!
🦺Council is working hard to get the boardwalk upgrade completed in time for the Christmas holidays. This includes working on Saturdays.
🥺Great for them, but not so good for our parkrun.
🧡In the meantime, catch the great parkrun vibes at one of the other local events Coffs Harbour parkrun, Horseshoe Bay Reserve parkrun, Grafton parkrun, Port Macquarie parkrun, Wauchope parkrun, Armidale parkrun

Our southern neighbours at Wauchope parkrun are celebrating their 400th event on Saturday 2nd August 🎉🎉 They are aiming for 400 participants to make it a milestone to remember ! Mili will be heading down to tick off her "W" and would love to see some familiar faces - only 90 minutes drive so very doable. 😉😉

☝️ A reminder that our event is on pause for a few months while the Council complete an overhaul of our beautiful boardwalk. It's going to be amazing when it's done!

🌧 Just gotta keep that pesky rain away so they can actually work...

🎅 Hopefully we will see you around Christmas time. In the meantime, go and play tourist at some of our awesome neighbour parkruns like Coffs Harbour parkrun, Horseshoe Bay Reserve parkrun, Grafton parkrun, Yamba parkrun, Armidale parkrun, Walcha parkrun, just to name a few!

A massive thank you to the 47 people who joined us this morning for our last pre-hiatus parkrun 🤗

For those who wish to keep their Saturday routine going, Coffs Harbour parkrun is our nearest neighbour - they would love to have you join them 🧡. Or maybe you could travel a bit further afield as some are planning to do; with nearly 50 parkys within a 4 - 5 hour drive, your choices are plentiful 😉

🧡 Come and join us this Saturday for what will be our last Urunga parkrun for a few months.

🚧 Half of our beautiful course is becoming a works depot while Council do much-needed upgrades to our iconic boardwalk.

🧐 We have looked at options to change the course around the works but can't find a viable solution. (We really have looked at so many options, but happy to hear suggestions!)

🥺 So, unfortunately we have to put a pause on Urunga parkrun until our course becomes available again. The work is scheduled to finish before Christmas and we will keep posting updates here as the work progresses.

😀 See you this Saturday for a 7am start. 6:50am First Timers' briefing. Please remember we are a "no dogs" parkrun.

😔We have made the very difficult decision to cancel our event tomorrow Saturday 24 May 2025.

🌤Even though the sun has come out, there is still a significant amount of water on the path and on the grass next to the path. Running around the puddles would cause significant damage to the grassed area and pose a risk to our participants.

🧡We are sorry to have to make this decision. We hope everyone is safe and dry.

😀We will be back again as usual on 31 May for a 7am start. In the meantime, check out our awesome parkrun neighbours at Coffs Harbour parkrun!
