It was a real treat to have DANCE and hypermobile DANCERS' HEALTH considerations included in the EDS Global Learning Conference this February 2025 πŸ‘Œ πŸ‘

There was a great lineup of presenters in the field:
- Anita Crawshaw - hypermobility and dance physio from The Hypermobility Clinic in NZ
- - a Phd candidate from Brisbane who talked about hypermobile kids' participation in dance activities
- dr Jason Lam, who talked about hypermobility in sub-elite and elite athletes

Hypermobility is very prevalent in dance. Studies show that between circa 45-75% of dancers are hypermobile.
In my clinical experience, 90% 😱 (but remember, I am a physio, I see dancers with injuries).
And yes, hypermobile dancers face many challenges!

Hypermobility can be a blessing or a curse in dance.
Which one are you?
Is your hypermobility helping you or hindering your dance life?

Enjoying the weekend with , while I virtually attend the annual conference. Another fantastic event filled with amazing experts. I feel so lucky to be learning from them πŸ‘ congratulations to ASPAH.

For those who do not know, ASPAH is Australian Society for Performing Arts Healthcare, an organisation I trust and reach to for updating my knowledge and skill in the field of healthcare of performing artists.

It is important to me that I bring the newest knowledge and evidence-based practice to my work with artists, and ASPAH is my rock.

By the way, membership of aspah is not exclusive to healthcare practitioners only. Educators play as big of a role and are encouraged to join the membership of ASPAH. Let's not forget that artists' wellbeing is a team effort and requires a streamlined and open communication and understanding of all parties involved.

Hope to see you alongside. 😊

The photos show only examples of topics covered at the conference. Other areas discussed where pain science, neurodiversity, musicians health and injury risk factors confidence and Appreciate Dialogue Therapy, hypermobility, postural and compression garments in dance - investigation of Backalast , mental health, health education for teachers, biomechanics, injury screening and prevention, assessments etc.

Pointe readiness was the hot topic at our ASPAH Journal Club this month.
is a fantastic association that gathers healthcare providers and educators for the performing arts folk.
It provides many opportunities for professional development and updates us with the most recent scientific findings on the best practice for the management of performing artists.
The journal club is one of such opportunities and updates, which I always value and make time to sit on and join the conversations. This time, we had dance physios and dance educators discuss the best way to ensure readiness and safety en pointe for dancers.
ASPAH, thank you.

If you are a dance teacher, I highly recommend and encourage you to become an ASPAH member and join the conversation and use their resources to stay up to date with the science in dance medicine.
