Stretching is a good habit. But if you’re doing it consistently and still dealing with the same stiffness, it’s worth understanding why.

Flexibility and mobility are not the same thing. Flexibility is about muscle length. Mobility is about how well a joint moves through its full range, and that’s governed by the joint itself, the surrounding tissues, and the nervous system controlling it.

But since we're here, let's talk about what that sound actually is...

The popping sound during an adjustment is caused by a release of gas, mainly carbon dioxide, from within the joint capsule. When the joint is moved through a specific range, the pressure inside changes rapidly and the gas escapes. That's the pop.

It doesn't indicate anything has been forced, cracked, or damaged. It's simply a byproduct of the joint moving. And for the record, you don't need to hear the sound for the adjustment to have worked.

A gentle walk helps the spine settle into its new position and stops the surrounding muscles from tightening back up. Water supports how the joints and discs respond. Avoiding long periods of sitting and skipping the heavy training session for the day gives the nervous system time to integrate the change without additional load.
