In recent years, an abundance of research has emerged linking dysbiosis of the gut microbiota to various forms of cancer.
The altered gut microbiota of cancer patients may lead to increased beta-glucuronidase activity and increased levels of circulating oestrogen, which binds to oestrogen receptors and promotes cell proliferation in oestrogen-sensitive tissues.

The metabolism of oestrogens starts in the liver, where they are conjugated (neutilised) via glucuronidation, in the Phase II detox pathway, carried within bile oestrogens are excreted into gut then de-conjugated by beta-glucuronidase, and then they are re-absorbed as free oestrogens through enterohepatic circulation.

This process is part of the estrobolome – the collection of microbes involved in oestrogen metabolism.
When the gut microbiome is healthy, the estrobolome produces just the right amount of beta-glucuronidase to maintain oestrogen homeostasis. When there is dysbiosis there can be increased β-Glucuronidase activity and increased reabsorption of oestrogen occurs. In other words oestrogen dominance.

Comprehensive stool analysis (e.g., GI-MAP) includes β-glucuronidase levels.
β-Elevated >4433 U/g is red flagged. 🚩

It is important to modulate β-Glucuronidase activity, starting with increasing fibre: cruciferous vegetables, flax, legumes, addressing dysbiosis, and use targeted therapies like Calcuim-D-Glucorate

“It’s just Panadol — everyone takes it right!”
But OTC meds can have long-term consequences.
While effective for pain, Panadol is metabolised in your liver, overuse can lead to liver toxicity.
And this process uses up large amounts of glutathione.

Low Glutathione = More Oxidative Stress.
Without enough glutathione, your body struggles to neutralise toxins and free radicals.
Think: cell damage, fatigue, inflammation.

There’s another way

✨ Investigate the root cause
✨ Support detox pathways
✨ Try magnesium, omega-3s, curcumin, boswellia, ginger
✨ Use Functional Nutrition to address inflammation, nutrient gaps, and lifestyle triggers naturally.

Want to get to the root of your pain — naturally?
Want to support detox, reduce inflammation, and feel better — naturally?

Not all Vaginal Infections are BV or Thrush – Meet BV’s hot angry cousin, Aerobic Vaginitis (AV) 🌸

Persistent discomfort down there but treatments for BV or thrush not working? 🤔

It could be Aerobic Vaginitis – an underdiagnosed condition with very different causes and care needs.

🦠 AV is driven by inflammation and the presence of aerobic bacteria, like E. coli or Staph aureus, Entercoccus faecalis.

Unlike BV, AV often involves va**nal redness, pain, burning, and sometimes yellow discharge – and it doesn’t always smell.

✨ Key signs of AV:

Vaginal dryness and soreness

Yellowish discharge

Painful in*******se

Often worsens after antibiotics

💡 Supporting va**nal healing in AV may involve:

Targeting inflammation 🧬

Rebuilding the va**nal microbiome 🌱

Avoiding overuse of antibiotics 🚫

Restoring epithelial integrity with the right nutrients + local therapies

If this sounds familiar, it’s worth exploring a va**nal microbiome test or connecting with a practitioner who understands the nuance.

📩 DM me or book a discovery call to learn more about personalised support for AV and other intimate ecology concerns.

Hormonal harmony plate!

🌱Lots of bitter greens to support bile flow which helps to carry waste products and excess oestrogen out of body.

🌱Broccoli sprouts: rich in sulforaphane supporting phase 2 liver detox, helping shift oestrogen down “cleaner pathways” for cancer prevention.

🌱Mung bean sprouts: rich in phytoestrogens that have a similar structure to oestrogen (estradiol). These phytoestrogens bind to oestrogen receptors also having anti-proliferative and protective effects.

Do you need help supporting hormonal harmony?

The link between intrauterine devices (IUDs) and bacterial vaginosis (BV) has been explored in numerous studies, and while the relationship is not completely straightforward, there is evidence suggesting certain types of IUDs increase the risk of BV in some individuals.

Evidence with microbial culturing have revealed biofilms of BV associated microbes on IUD’s after removal.

Studies have found higher prevalences of BV in first few months after insertion.

Some women experience discomfort including lower abdominal or pelvic discomfort, particularly if BV becomes recurrent or complicated.

Hallmarks of BV are thin, greyish discharge, a strong fishy odour and sometimes mild irritation and itching.

If you are struggling with symptoms, if you are getting recurent BV it may be worth considering.

It is important to monitor your va**nal microbiome.

Bacterial Vaginosis (BV) is the most common va**nal infection occurring in women. A whopping 30% of women get BV each year.

BV involves a reduction of key lactobacillus bacteria, replaced by and an overgrowth of anaerobic bacteria such as Gardnerella va**nalis, Prevotella, Atopobium.

It commonly occurs due to hormonal changes, which leads to imbalance of the healthy lactobacillus bacteria which usually keeps the delicate ecosystem acidic to help prevent infection.

There are also other reasons to consider e.g., sexual activity, diet, immunity, hygiene and STRESS.

60% of women will have relapse within 6-12 months after treatment, and if
left untreated, BV increases the risk of:

🔴Pelvic infections
🔴Miscarriage
🔴Preterm birth
🔴Increased STI susceptibility

WHY RE-OCCURRENCE -

Bacteria like Gardnerella va**nalis can form sneaky biofilms protecting itself from standard treatments like (metronidazole or clindamycin). The antibiotics cannot break the biofilms barricade; therefore the bacteria hide and reemerge.
Think of a biofilm like a slimy fortress where microbes collaborate and resist being cleared out—especially when BV keeps coming back.

Reinfection also re-occurs due to sexual translocation. The latest research has proven that men can translocate BV meaning it “acts like an STI” therefore if we also treat men too there may be less chance of re-occurrence.

What a holistic genitourinary practitioner can do -
➡️We can order you a va**na microbiome test to establish which bacteria are at play.
➡️We can assist in breaking down biofilm’s
➡️Help restore Lactobacilli
➡️Monitor pH. to identify patterns, and advise you not to use douches, soaps, washes that disrupt pH.
➡️Advise to use barrier methods
➡️Address lifestyle risks - lower systemic inflammation (sugar, alcohol, stress) and support the terrain.

If you’re stuck in the UTI loop after menopause, you deserve to know this option exists.

Have the conversion with your doctor.

Topical, low-dose, oestrogen is much safer than most people think — even for many breast cancer survivors (but always check with your doctor).

Common Vaginal Oestrogen Options:

🔴Estriol or estradiol creams (applied 2–3x/week after initial loading phase).
🔴Vaginal pessaries (e.g., Vagifem).
🔴Vaginal ring (e.g., Estring – changed every 3 months).

Obviously, however there is no one-size-fits-all answer for all.
Chronic, relapsing and embedded UTI presentations require personalised and expert support with a holistic genitourinary practitioner who understands the full picture — va**na/urinary microbiome, hormones, bladder ecology, and more.

❤️ Let’s normalise this conversation: va**nal and urinary health are deeply connected — and they matter at every stage of life.

📩 Share this with someone who needs it.

Or drop a ❤️ if you’re ready to start that conversation.

Would you like to know what’s going on with your hormones?

“A dried urine hormone panel offers a full, functional map of your hormones and how your body is handling them — giving us much deeper insights into how to support your health, naturally and precisely.”

Once your body uses hormones, it needs to detoxify and excrete them.

The DUTCH test evaluates Phase 1 (hydroxylation) and Phase 2 (methylation) detox pathways of oestrogens (estrone, estradiol, estriol), highlighting protective vs potentially genotoxic metabolites.

For instance, Phase 1 liver detoxification (via cytochrome P450 enzymes) turns oestrogen into hydroxylated metabolites: 2-OH, 4-OH, 16-OH estrogen pathways.

2OH is protective
4OH is risky
16OH is proliferative.

“Think of your estrogens going down three different roads — one road is safe, one road is risky, and one is a bit too stimulating. We want to guide most of your estrogen down the safest road, and help your body detox it smoothly.”

💁‍♀️This test is great clinical tool for us praccies, and is best suited for patients with estrogen-related symptoms (e.g., PMS, PMDD, fibroids, breast health risk or hormone driven cancer risk concerns, perimenopause/menopause transition, PCOS and androgen excess and is useful for monitoring HRT or detox protocols.

💁‍♀️Also, cortisol patterns, accessing, fatigue, burnout, insomnia etc.

➡️One of the labs has a great offer at the moment $100 off Endomap‼️

“I requested homocysteine as part of a pathology screen last week and got some pushback”. But this marker gives me valuable insight into possible underlying contributors to fatigue, cognitive changes, cardiovascular risk, hormone metabolism, and nutrient status—especially B12, folate, and B6.

Homocysteine levels reflect how well your body can methylate DNA, neurotransmitters, hormones, and detoxify.

I like to test homocysteine especially in hormonal transitioning (perimenopause, menopause) due to cardiovascular risk and mood concerns.

Also with:

➡️Fatigue, and brain fog
➡️Suspected B12/folate deficiency (esp. vegans, older adults)
➡️MTHFR or other SNPs
➡️Chronic inflammation or autoimmunity
➡️Recurrent pregnancy loss

Homocysteine Ideal range is 5.0 to 7.0 mmol/L

Testing homocysteine can give valuable insights into methylation, cardiovascular health, and more especially in the context of functional and preventive healthcare. WARRANTED!

NOTE: I have just discovered that low homocysteine can be problematic as well. TO BE CONTINUED!
