Amber Community

Amber Community We are a not-for-profit organisation contributing to the safety and wellbeing of road users. Sessions may be conducted face-to-face, online or by telephone.

Amber Community was founded in 1994 by a small group of people whose lives had been directly impacted by road trauma. These people understood the need for a specialist service where support could be offered to those who, like them, were suffering because of the injury or loss of a loved one on the roads. They joined with professionals working in the area to provide counselling and support. From th

is humble beginning in 1994, Amber Community has grown to offer state-wide counselling, support and education services to individuals affected by a road incident. Counselling sessions are free of charge, confidential and unlimited in number for people affected by a collision on the roads (or involving any public transport), whenever this may have occurred. You do not need a referral to access our services. Our clients include bereaved families, friends and colleagues; injured people and carers; drivers and passengers; and people who were first on scene – witnesses, citizens who offered assistance, and emergency service workers. We are not a crisis service; our office hours are between 9 am – 5 pm, Monday to Friday. If you need to speak to someone urgently, please call Lifeline on 13 11 14. Amber Community is committed to educating the community and raising public awareness about road trauma and how it affects people’s lives. We do this by positively influencing driver attitudes and behaviours with the aim of reducing crashes and the resulting trauma.

There are rules for how we travel on our roads to ensure the safety of workers operating emergency, enforcement and incident response vehicles.

From 1 July, you must safely slow to 40 km/h when passing tow trucks, breakdown support vehicles, and incident response vehicles on freeways and tollways. These vehicles join emergency services and law enforcement in the group you’re already required to slow down for.

Always check your mirrors, then gradually reduce your speed when you see flashing lights - without braking suddenly. Adjust your driving to the current road and traffic conditions to ensure your safety. To find out more, visit https://bit.ly/43Ti0lM

Let’s do all we can to keep everyone safe on our roads.

This year, for the Transport Accident Commission (TAC) and AFL Victoria Road Safety Round, taking place from Thursday 24 July to Sunday 27 July, football and netball players across Victoria will come together for road safety.

This year’s Road Safety Round will spotlight speeding, which is a major contributor to road trauma on Victorian roads. Players will take to the field and the courts wearing blue armbands to honour lives lost on the road and serve as a reminder that we all have a responsibility to play our role.

Community members around Victoria will also be running ‘late-laps’ at local grounds around the state and banking them for the future. The initiative sends a message that there is no need to speed to get to training on time. To play your role, collect an armband from your local football and netball club, and start running.
Be the Difference. Show up for your team. Slow down on the road.
