Farewell James 😢

Sadly, today is James’ last day at Victor Harbor Physio. Although his time at the clinic was short, his calm personality and wealth of knowledge in both paediatrics and musculoskeletal physio will be sorely missed by our team and his patients.

Last night, Phil and Sonia sent him off in true Victor Harbor Physio fashion with a wonderful singing and guitar arrangement. Thanks to the for having us.

We wish him all the best!

Tomorrow is Bayan’s last day in clinic.

We wish him all the best for his remaining studies and hope he has enjoyed his placement at Victor Harbor Physio.

To complete his placement, Bayan ran PD today on Cervical Radiculopathy. This condition often presents with pain radiating down the arm, altered sensation and reduced muscle strength due to nerve compression in the neck.

Today, our exercise physiologist Erin ran us through screening protocols for Relative Energy Deficiency in Sport (REDs) and the recommended referral pathways.

REDs is a condition seen in both male and female athletes who are consistently not meeting their fuelling requirements for the amount of exercise they are engaging in.

If untreated, this can cause consequences to the reproductive, immune and cardiovascular systems as well as elevate injury risk especially to bony tissue. This can also be very detrimental to energy levels and performance. So identifying those at risk or showing early signs is paramount.

Well done to all those who participated in Coastrek yesterday.

Hikers took to the Fleurieu coastline on either 20km or 35km courses, which finished in Port Elliot.

Coastrek has raised a staggering $391,090 for mental health. Fantastic effort 👏

Stress fractures 🦴

Stress fractures develop when bone is exposed to repetitive mechanical stressors or overuse that exceeds its capacity. High load, nutrition, biomechanics, metabolic health conditions and poor sleep can all be contributing factors.

They are more common in the lower limbs and in sports like long distance running and gymnastics/dance.

Today, the team went through assessment and management protocols. Return to exercise needs to be graduated and here Sonia is going through a taping technique that can help reduce load and assist with symptom relief with pain around the foot.
