A safe home isn’t just about walls and a roof - it’s about how we treat each other inside of that home. 🏡
By nurturing the relationships within our families, we can help prevent domestic and family violence.
Here are some building blocks of a home where everyone feels safe, valued, and cared for:
💙 Respect
Everyone’s feelings, boundaries, and opinions matter. You treat each other fairly, honour each other’s personal time and space, and don’t cross lines that make someone uncomfortable.
💙 Kindness
Speak kindly, be mindful of your tone, and never use violence. If you’re feeling angry or overwhelmed, it’s important to pause, take a breath, and choose a calm response. Counselling and behaviour change programs can make a big difference.
💙 Non-judgement
Home should be a place where you can be yourself - without fear of criticism or judgement.
💙 Support
Celebrate each other’s wins, encourage each other’s dreams, and be extra kind on tough days.
No one should feel like they have to face things alone.
💙 Honesty
You should feel safe to share how you feel, communicate honestly, and trust each other.
💙 Patience
Everyone learns and grows at their own pace. A safe home allows room for mistakes and encourages patience with each other’s quirks, struggles, and needs.
