What is Chronic Pain?

Chronic pain is pain that lasts longer than 3 months or beyond the normal healing time.

It affects 1 in 5 Australians, impacting daily life, mood, sleep, and overall well-being.

Unlike acute pain, which is a short-term warning signal, chronic pain often continues even after the initial injury has healed — and sometimes there’s no clear cause at all.

How Can Exercise Help

While it may seem counterintuitive to move when you’re in pain, regular, gentle exercise is one of the best tools for pain management:
• Desensitises your nervous system and reduces pain signals
• Releases endorphins – your body’s natural painkillers
• Strengthens muscles and joints, improving support and stability
• Enhances flexibility and movement
