🙋♀️ What is Yin Yoga?
Yin Yoga is unique as its direction of stimulation is not so much on muscles/superficial tissues, but targets the connective tissues of the body (ligaments, bones and joints). It incorporates principals of Traditional Chinese Medicine. The asanas (poses) are held for around 3-5 minutes compared to more Yang styles of Yoga, where poses are generally held for a few cycles of breath before moving on to the next asana.
❓ Why Yin Yoga?
Yin shares the same objectives as any more Yang (dynamic) yoga practice, some of which are self-reflection, achieving deep relaxation, gaining control over one’s breath, and growing through mediation.
🤔 Is it for me?
There are many reasons people begin a yoga practice, or trial it for themselves.
I love Yin Yoga because it is a calming space for me to unwind and simply listen to the instructions of the teacher, making my way into the postures gently, while meditating on my breath or an empowering thought I may need that day. All while allowing my body to sink into a posture, and feeling my body actively relaxing with time. It’s a beautiful journey ✨
You do not need any yoga experience. Yin is a suitable class for mostly all bodies, no matter what range of flexibility you have.
