How cool 😎 is this!? Nice find The Growing Space! 👌

🕵️ We’ve been doing a bit of websurfing and found something cool at IKEA!
🪑 Did you know that IKEA has an accessible furniture range?

🌟 In April 2025, IKEA launched a new accessibility line called BÄSINGEN.

🚿 It has 6 products, which includes step stools, bathroom rails and a shower shelf.

💞 They are made to help people with limited movement.

🌍 IKEA says this is just the start of their accessibility journey, and they have worked with people with disability to design the range.

🙋 We haven’t tried these products yet, but we are curious to know if they are any good?

❓ Have you tried them? We’d love to know what you think.

💬 Drop your thoughts in the comments!

🔗 You can find the BÄSINGEN range here: https://www.ikea.com/au/en/cat/baesingen-series-700636/

On the 5th of Septermber 2025, the NDIA announced that it would delay the implementation of New Framework Planning.

For those that need a refresher, new framework plans are linked in the legislation to 'needs assessments' and NDIS elligible impairments to determine what budget a participant is allocated for services and supports.

The National Disability Insurance Agency (NDIA) has announced that the release of new framework plans will be delayed until mid 2026.

Disability Intermediaries Australia (DIA) supports this decision. While we know many in the community are eager to understand how these reforms will be introduced, taking additional time provides an important opportunity to ensure the design features of the new framework plans are done right.

Getting this right is critical: framework plans will shape how participants interact with the NDIS, how intermediaries support them, and how services are delivered across the sector. Rushing this process risks unintended consequences that will impact people with disability, families, and providers.

DIA will continue to engage closely with the NDIA during this extended timeframe to make sure the voices of people with disability, families, and intermediaries are heard.

For more information, see the NDIA's news section here:

Well said 🙌 Sam from The Growing Space

This week’s episode of Four Corners was all about SDA houses.
But really, and forgive me a little bit of a rant, it really wasn’t. It was actually about shonky developers promising super high (unrealistic) returns to naïve investors who got scr*wed over, while their often poorly built houses in s**tty areas without services sit empty, costing them money.
While some of those investors likely liked the idea of investing in homes for disabled people, it was no doubt the promise of higher than average returns that drew them in – not exactly entirely altruistic. And my grandma always taught me that if it sounds too good to be true, then it probably isn’t true. How right she was!
The episode seemed to imply that these houses, sitting empty, are costing the NDIS/taxpayer. They don’t. SDA funds ONLY flow when an SDA registered house with a registered SDA provider has a resident living there who has approved SDA funds in their plan. These empty houses are only costing the (shonky/ignorant) developers and (I wanna get rich quick) investors (with some exceptions, of course).
I can’t tell you the number of developers who have approached me, trying to “get” our client list to fill their houses. I’ve been offered cash and all kinds of kickbacks to breach client confidentiality. Yeah NAH!
Let it be known that we will happily hand on information about all available SDA homes to the participants we work with, and I will happily work to share info about SDA providers and builders with whom I’ve had an excellent personal or direct experience with. But if you’re building s**t homes in s**t areas, don’t bother speaking to me. Really.
/rant over
