We love the incredible work of Sandhya Menon from Onwards and Upwards Psychology — her beautiful storybooks, the wealth of free resources on her website, and the parenting courses we often recommend to families.

So it was an absolute privilege to welcome Sandhya to Wagga Wagga this week for a tailored professional development day with our team — how lucky are we?!?!

The day didn’t feel like “training” — it felt like a warm, honest, reflective, and supportive conversation. With neuroaffirming practice as our foundation, we explored how to better understand and support PDA profiles and autistic children experiencing distress. We walked away with thoughtful insights and practical strategies that are immediately useful — both in the therapy room and in the lives of the children and families we support.

We’re so grateful to Sandhya for so generously sharing her professional wisdom, clinical experience, and lived perspective — and for becoming a Wagga local for the day. 😊

(I was the inaugural lawn bowls champion)

Today marked 1 year at 43 Best street! And what a year it's been...

- We packed, we cleaned, and we moved from Docker street
- One of us reversed into a pole
- We made our own signage
- And got proper signage made
- We celebrated the Olympic spirit with Green and Gold day
- We dressed up for Book Week
- We put a staff shower in
- And then we pulled the shower out
- We rocked our new merch
- We pulled a palm tree down
- Some of us walked 100km, raising funds for the Black Dog Institute
- We knocked walls down
- We built a brand new consultation room (now we have 5 in total)
- We wore it purple
- We got new flooring throughout
- We removed nasty wall decor
- We painted the inside of the practice
- Patrina joined us
- 2 interns nailed their internships and became fully registered psychs
- Someone had an '0' birthday
- We hosted Phoenix Allison Rising for some amazing professional development
- We crowned an inaugural lawn bowls winner
- We welcomed Dan to the team
- We introduced ourselves to AI
- and Steph came onboard

Most importantly, we have loved welcoming families and offering our services from our very warm, accessible, accomodating, and cosy little home!

I can't believe it has been 2 years already! Looking back, I can see I made a fantastic decision 2 years ago. 1 office move, 2 room moves, plenty of flat pack furniture building, winning at the inaugural lawn bowls Christmas party, and the list goes on...

The biggest part is seeing our team grow. We now have an incredible 7 psychologists and 2 admin working out of our home on Best street. It's the dream team!

I bought a book for the first time in forever! (Which means it must be a pretty big deal).

I loved the book Different, Not Less by Chloé Hayden, so when I saw that her mum Sarah Hayden published a book on Neurosparkly parenting, I had to go buy it.

p.s. 'Neurosparkly' is my new favourite term now.

Quick reminder of the fee increase from Monday 3rd March. Private paying clients will need a referral from their GP before their next appointment to claim the Medicare rebate.

I also forgot to create a graphic before I left work today, so please enjoy my wonderful digital artwork. (It's supposed to be an alarm clock...)

A very important call on the federal government. 10 sessions a year isn't even one a month!

Please sign the petition and share with your networks. Australians deserve better access to mental health services.

The call by AAPi and eight other psychology bodies for the Federal Government to remove the 10-session limit on Medicare psychology sessions is highlighted in a story across News Corp publications today.

"A coalition of nine peak bodies have united behind a petition urging Health Minister Mark Butler to lift the cap for certain disorders, warning that under the current system people are “tapping in and tapping out” of mental health support when they can afford to access it, rather than based on medical need," the article read.

AAPi President Sahra O’Doherty said the current 10-session limit was more based on budget constraints than medical or clinical advice.

But Ms O’Doherty said not giving patients enough subsidised support to adequately treat their mental health conditions costs the health system more over time as people then needed either longer or more intensive treatment.

"The government is pouring so much funding into what we call a ‘sprinkling of mental health support’, but all it’s doing is band-aiding the problem, as opposed to really looking at what is a system that could support not just early intervention, but ongoing and potentially long-term support for people who desperately need it,” she said.

I'm proud to announce that I received general registration as a psychologist today.

I went straight from school to uni in 2012, starting my psychology degree in 2013. I graduated in 2017 (alongside my mum which was extra special). I started my internship in 2021, changed jobs twice, and I have finally finished in 2025.

Thankyou so much to all the primary and secondary supervisors I've had along the way. Extra special thanks to Dr Naomi Malone - ND Mentor, Coach, Consultant and Kylie from Kanda Psychology. Big shout out to my colleagues past and present for making the last 4 years bearable.

Thanks to the clients, families, and referrers who have trusted me along the way.

Lastly, thankyou to my family and friends for all the support and encouragement since I set out on this journey.

Never give up on your dreams.

New year, new therapy room. Some clients are adjusting to their new surroundings this week. I promise I'll stop moving now!

Our very beautiful new therapy room was unveiled this week! Calming earthy colours and dubbed the 'Olive Room' for its beautiful green tones, this space is large, light filled, and soothing.

This room has been an ongoing project for the last 6 months and involved some pretty significant renovations including wall removals, wall construction, plastering, electrical work, painting, and new flooring. We've been privileged to be assisted by some amazing trades and local companies! In case you've missed the progress journey, we will post some before and after photos soon.

This room will allow us to increase our service capacity and we are excited to be able to support more young people and families soon!
