Grief is, by definition, the loss of anything you held onto as part of your identity. As such, we can be assured we will go through cycles of grief a lot and often. Learning to spot grief and do it well is our challenge.🐦✨️💓

The prevalence of childhood illnesses among my own children in Term 4 (November and December) necessitated frequent office closures for Happy Little Brain. To allow for a full recovery and to participate in festive season celebrations with my extended family and friends, I have opted to take extended leave until January 20th. Please be understanding as I strive to respond to email correspondence and complete assessment reports.

THANKS EVERYONE -- WE NOW HAVE LOADS OF PEOPLE!

Remember you can pre-order your copy of OUT OF THE BOX here: https://www.avidreader.com.au/p/out-of-the-box-a-one-stop-guide-to-navigating-neurodivergence?barcode=9780702268779

HELP NEEDED!

A national TV program is looking for 6 kids and their parents to appear on a segment to talk about the challenges (and successes!) of being neurodivergent at school.

They want to hear from ND tweens and teens about what's working and what's not in schools for kids who are neurodivergent. (This includes kids who have been suspended or expelled and who would like to share their experience.) If you are flourishing at school because of amazing teachers -- we also want to hear from you! They want to hear the good and bad!

We need kids and families who are based in Brisbane as that's where they are going to film the story!

If you're interested and would like to talk to the producer to hear more details (you don't need to commit yet) -- shoot me an email to hello@rebeccasparrow.com Put TV INTERVIEW as your subject line.

Transition and change can stir up big emotions – especially when the time comes to say "goodbye" to primary school and "hello!" to high school.

It’s why our Kids Helpline counsellors developed Transition to High School, a virtual learning session designed to help students prepare for a smooth transition: https://kidshelpline.info/4e2ISD9

In this one-hour session, students will learn:

- how to prepare for high school
- how to express and normalise common worries and concerns
- strategies for making friends at their new school
- what to expect on their first day

PLUS, you can personalise the session to suit your class – including talking about emotional regulation, study tips, and how to seek help.

Sessions book out fast, so secure your spot today!

Encourage your tweens and teens to embrace their true selves by having an open conversation about bandwagon friends and their influence.

I’m telling my kids to watch out for bandwagon friends.
Friends who cheer for you only when you’re winning.

Friends who root for you when they are getting something out of it.
Friends who are only there for a good time.
Because everyone wants to be on the winning team.

But how about those friends who stick by you when your team loses?
The friends who rally around you when everything seems to be going wrong.
The friends who show up with flowers, food, and endless unconditional support.
The friends who call checking in daily and remind you they're there.

These friends are your ride and die.

Because it’s the friends who are there when things get hard who are worth your time, effort, and love.

These are your people.
