𝐂𝐮𝐩𝐩𝐚 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐂𝐫𝐚𝐟𝐭 𝐁𝐫𝐢𝐧𝐠𝐬 𝐑𝐞𝐟𝐮𝐠𝐞𝐞 𝐒𝐭𝐨𝐫𝐢𝐞𝐬 𝐭𝐨 𝐋𝐢𝐟𝐞 𝐢𝐧 𝐋𝐞𝐞𝐭𝐨𝐧
As part of Refugee Week 2025, the “Cuppa and Craft” event was held in Leeton to celebrate the contributions of refugees and promote community inclusion.
Hosted by South West NSW in collaboration with Intereach, the Red Cross, and local CALD community members, the event reflected this year’s theme: “𝑭𝒊𝒏𝒅𝒊𝒏𝒈 𝑭𝒓𝒆𝒆𝒅𝒐𝒎: 𝑫𝒊𝒗𝒆𝒓𝒔𝒊𝒕𝒚 𝒊𝒏 𝑪𝒐𝒎𝒎𝒖𝒏𝒊𝒕𝒚.”
Attendees took part in mindfulness colouring, card making, and storytelling activities. A highlight was a world map where refugee participants pinned their countries of origin—Philippines, Indonesia, Malaysia, Kenya, Pakistan, and Afghanistan—showcasing the diversity within the Leeton community.
The event emphasised the vital role inclusive communities play in helping refugees rebuild their lives.
Refugee Week continues to raise awareness and foster connection, resilience, and belonging for those seeking refuge in Australia.

We are proud to acknowledge and celebrate Aunty Mary Atkinson, CCSP Executive Officer of the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Committee for the Diocese of Wagga Wagga, and one of this year’s recipients of the NATSICC Service to Community Elder Award.

A respected Wiradjuri Ngunnawal Elder, Aunty Mary has dedicated over 40 years to cultural leadership, education, and faith in Catholic communities across the Riverina and beyond.
