Friday night at the Community Centre did not disappoint! 🎶

Another round of toe-tapping magic lit up the community centre on Friday, all thanks to the amazing Cathy and Friends. And yes…. The whispers were true ! Ross finally snagged the spotlight he’s been chasing. He might not be ready for the smoke machine just yet, but after that performance… he’s definitely getting close!
John on the accordion was an absolute joy he had the kind of energy that makes you smile without even realising it. But the star of the night ? Cathy without a doubt. She had the whole room singing, swaying and soaking up every note she played! I hear she even had Jo and Mary singing and swaying along that’s a great achievement.

We can’t wait to do it all again next time !

🌺 Riverina Gums Rumour Mill: Ukulele Edition 🌺
Well, well, WELL… word on the street (and by street, we mean the Serviced Apartment Corridor) is that the Strum Ukulele Group rolled in and completely stole the show. Residents were tapping toes, swaying hips, and there were whispers—yes, whispers—that a few even considered forming a fan club.
But the real headline?
Ross.
Sources (very reliable sources, mind you) report that Ross was spotted not only tapping along but deeply considering a career change. One witness claims he had “the look of a man ready for Las Vegas,” while another insists he was moments away from demanding a spotlight and smoke machine.
Cathy, of course, kept him grounded… mostly. But insiders say she might have encouraged him just enough to keep the rumours going.
Will Ross begin a ukulele solo act?
Will Cathy become his manager?
Will the Strum Ukulele Group survive the competition?
Stay tuned, Riverina Gums. The plot thickens.

Celebrating 50 Years at Wonthaggi 🌾💛

For fifty years Wonthaggi has been more than just a farm; it has been a home, a place of hard work and the beating heart of the Thomas family story.

It all began in 1976 when Geoff and Faye Thomas took over Wonthaggi. With determination, grit and a shared dream, they poured their hearts into the land, raising their children; Mark, Nigel, Carolyn and Rachel. Between early mornings and long days, Wonthaggi shaped their childhoods, instilling responsibility, resilience and the quiet strength of growing up on the land.

In 1995, Mark and Leanne Thomas took over the reins, bringing a new generation; Brett, Megan and Chris. They grew up on the same soil, learning the rhythms of the farm, from muddy boots in the sheep yards to long days of harvesting, the story unfolds.

In 2015, the family expanded with the purchase of Rockleigh. This bold step added new challenges and opportunities but never changed their deep connection to the land.

In 2020, Chris and Elaine Thomas became the third generation to run Wonthaggi. Their children Grace and Matthew now run across the paddocks their great grandparents and grandparents ran across, infusing the farm with laughter, energy and new memories.

In 2025 Brett Thomas took over Rockleigh, while Chris and Elaine Thomas continued to care for and own Wonthaggi.

Over 50 years, Wonthaggi has weathered both challenging and prosperous seasons. It’s seen early mornings and late nights, moments of joy and exhaustion, beginnings and farewells. While the machinery has evolved and the days have changed, the core values remain steadfast; family, resilience and a profound love for the land.

Wonthaggi has transcended its agricultural roots. It’s a home, a repository of history and a living testament to the Thomas family legacy. It grows, thrives and carries forward the love, work and pride of generations past and those yet to come.
