When all else fails trust the yoga.
My dear teacher said this to me early in my training many years ago.
And I do, when life is good I live my life, I don’t practice as often, I just live life, but when I’m lost and distrusting of what’s been presented, I come back to the practices, all these ancient rituals that have been tested over thousands of years. When I overthink what to practice, I do Sun Salutations, simple, effective and lets my body rhythmically move.
Yoga is still the thing that has surprised me most about my life, I never could have foreseen that I would practice yoga, let alone teach yoga.
And in my recent illness, I was the most grateful for these traditions. When I couldn’t move my body, I could meditate, I could still chant, I could journal.
And as I came back to Asana (physical practice), it has been a starting again. A new birth, a new body, a new awareness.
With so much complexity in the world at the moment, the simple Sun Salutations have been my go to for stability, for holding, and returning home.
