27/01/2026
A heatwave is predicted for our region from Saturday 24 January to Wednesday 28 January 2026, coinciding with the long weekend.
Wagga Wagga City Council is urging residents to plan ahead to stay cool, particularly as many Council facilities and local community centres will be closed on the Australia Day public holiday, Monday 26 January.
If you don’t have air conditioning at home, cool spaces can help you escape the heat. These include air-conditioned community facilities, local pools and shopping centres.
🇦🇺 Australia Day public holiday: A temporary Cool Centre will be open on Monday 26 January at the Seniors Community Centre, 104 Tarcutta Street, Wagga Wagga, from 9am–5pm, with air-conditioned spaces, bathrooms and drinking water available.
🏝️ Oasis Aquatic Centre will be open over the weekend, including Monday. Please note it is expected to be extremely busy and capacity will be capped. Check Wagga Leisure social media for updates before heading in.
🧊 Find cool spaces across the Murrumbidgee – MPHN has a list of the region's cool spaces at https://mphn.org.au/cool-spaces – Please contact individual councils for public holiday opening hours.
