PUBLIC HEALTH ALERT
HEATWAVE CONDITIONS
Monday 5 January – Friday 9 January 2026
Director Public Health Unit, Alison Nikitas has issued a heatwave alert for the Murrumbidgee Local Health District.
Severe heatwaves can be dangerous for many people, especially older people, babies, children, pregnant and breastfeeding women, people with medical conditions and people who are unwell.
🏫 Seek a place to keep cool, such as your home, a library, community centre or shopping centre.
🪟 Close your windows and draw blinds, curtains or awnings early in the day to keep the heat out of your home.
🚿 If available, use fans or air-conditioners to keep cool, or have cool showers.
A prolonged period of heat is forecast to build over southern, central and western NSW this week
Maximum forecast temperatures in high thirties to low forties across the Murrumbidgee Local Health District, peaking later in the week.
Overnight forecast minimum temperatures reaching low to mid twenties.
