Cancer is one of the leading causes of death worldwide. Despite available treatments (surgery, chemotherapy, radiation), recurrent cancers still develop in 20-40% of patients. The latest research on the benefits of exercise for cancer patients showed that those who engaged in structured exercise resulted in significantly longer disease-free survival, for example reduced likelihood of cancer recurrence, new cancer diagnosis or death. Not only this, but we also know that regular exercise can help improve one's quality of life by helping restoring function and movement during and after treatment, as well as showing other physical and mental health benefits as seen in the imaged taken from Exercise and Sports Science Australia (ESSA).
At Extend, we offer a cancer exercise class for those wanting to include exercise as part of their cancer journey. For those who need more tailored support we encourage working individually with either our exercise physiologist or physiotherapist.
