There are so many negative messages on social media, and more generally, that our young girls receive. This is a list of 35 books aimed at empowering educators, parents, and girls (from school aged through to teenager), to develop a positive self image. Such a great resource on such an important topic.

Girls’ self-esteem peaks at 9 years old; 42% of 1st-3rd grade girls want to be thinner; by age 10, 80% of girls report being afraid of becoming fat. We've all seen statistics like these and know that body image is an important issue for girls but many parents find cultivating a positive body image in their daughters challenging, especially given all of the messages in the media about girls and women’s appearances.

To make it easier for parents to help their daughters develop a positive self image, we've compiled a collection of 35 empowering books for Mighty Girls on body image in our blog post, "Celebrating Every Body." We've included titles for all ages, from very young children through teenagers, as well as several books for parents and educators.

As always, if you purchase books that you discover on A Mighty Girl via the "Buy from Amazon" and other links found within this blog post and on every product page, we receive a small commission at no added cost to you, which allows us to maintain our website and continue to provide girl-empowering resources like this page for you as your own Mighty Girl grows. We appreciate your support!

Apparently Facebook doesn't like links as they take you away from the site, so I will try it in the comments :)

This is true for adults too!

Kids with anxiety need to know how powerful they are. Brains can change - especially ones that tend to be a little anxious sometimes. They change according to the experiences we feed it, which why trying brave things over and over is so important. If kids could see inside their brains, they would see millions of tiny brain cells making more and more connections every time they do something. The more connections that are in a part of the brain, the stronger it is and the better it works, whether it's the part that helps them do brave things or soothe anxiety. The things they do really make a difference.
