Drs Jason Sharp and Dennis Wang facilitated the recent Sturtural Heart Left Atrial Appendage Closure Centre of Excellence meeting at in collaboration with . Visiting cardiologists took part in didactic teaching sessions, hands-on beating heart simulator training and observation of 8 left atrial appendage closure cases. The course aims to prepare new proceduralists and their teams when commencing left atrial appendage closure an alternative to blood thinning treatment for patients with atrial fibrillation.

Sydney Adventist Hospital is proud to continue to lead the way as a Centre of Excellence in Left Atrial Appendage (LAA) Closure procedures.

Cardiologists visit the San for specialist training in LAA closure from our doctors who are recognised as leaders in this field.

Over the 27th and 28th of March, Interventional Cardiologists Dr Jason Sharp and Dr Dennis Wang facilitated the first of two Centre of Excellence in Left Atrial Appendage Closure meetings for 2024.

Attendees travelled from interstate including Western Australia and Queensland to be part of the program.

“Our program is one of the most comprehensive in the country. Our most recent meeting included the observation of several cases of left atrial appendage closure in the San’s Cardiac Catheterisation Laboratory, as well as step by step Amulet implant techniques, tips for procedural success and hands on simulator training,” said Dr Wang.

“Through sharing our knowledge, we are not only further enhancing the quality of care for our patients, but the broader community,” said Dr Sharp.

The next meeting will be held in September.
