Our exercise focus of the month is swimming. And that’s not just because it’s so fun! Swimming is a great workout, and its low impact nature makes it suitable for just about everyone. It’s especially good for those recovering from injuries as the buoyancy of water reduces impact on joints, while the resistance still provides a full-body workout. So, let’s get those muscles moving, improve cardiovascular fitness, and enjoy the healing benefits of the water. 🌊💪

🍻✨ Let's talk moderation and mindful sips. While many of us enjoy a drink from time to time, here’s a reminder that moderation matters. (And that you can have fun without drinking at all.)

🧠 Mind Your Mind: Too much alcohol can impact your mental clarity and mood. Why? Alcohol is a central nervous system depressant, releasing inhibitions and promoting relaxation initially, but as blood alcohol levels rise it impairs cognition and coordination and leads to a subdued or depressed mood. It also disrupts neurotransmitter balance (including serotonin and dopamine) so no wonder it can promote mood swings, irritability, and worsen symptoms of depression. Additionally, its dehydrating and sleep-disrupting. But by moderating, you keep that smile shining!

🩺 Love Your Liver: Overindulging can be tough on your liver. It has to work hard to metabolise nutrients, produce important proteins and filter toxins from your blood. Give it a little reprieve by cutting down on the booze toxins!

🏃🏻Stay Active: Excessive drinking can sap your energy and motivation. Moderate sips keep you ready to hit the gym or enjoy your favourite activities. It also reduces calcium absorption (not good for your bones. 🦴) And depletes your muscles of nutrients resulting in more aches and pains.

But How?

Hydration is Key: Alternate alcoholic beverages with water or non-alcoholic options. It's not just about staying sober; it helps you feel better the next day too!

Set a Goal: Decide how many drinks you'll have before you start. Setting a limit in advance can make it easier to stick to.

Choose Quality Over Quantity: Savour your drink choices. Opt for something you really enjoy rather than just drinking to drink.

Social Support: Share your goals with friends or family. They can help keep you on track and maybe even join you in moderating.

So, while we're all about enjoying life, remember that moderation helps you be your best, healthiest self. Cheers to making those smart sips! 🥂❤️

Wise words from gymnastics legend Mary Lou Retton. And they’re true…

Ever noticed that when you’re thinking about buying a new car in a particular model, you’re suddenly aware of that car everywhere? There aren’t suddenly more of that car 🚗 on the roads – your attention has just been awakened to them. It’s called the Baader-Meinhof phenomenon – and it’s just a quirky thing your brain does.

🧠 So why not harness that phenomenon through optimism? If you’re thinking about opportunities, you’ll be more aware of them. If you think about acts of kindness, you’ll see them everywhere.

🌟 And optimism isn't just a bright outlook; it's a superpower for mental health! Embracing a positive perspective can reduce stress, boost resilience, and improve overall well-being. So, keep that glass half full and let optimism light up your mind!

Of course, we know that aches and pains can make it hard to cultivate optimism. Luckily, we’re here to help with those. Call us on 9477 1905 to make an appointment today.

Our joke of the day!!!

But seriously – good posture makes a real difference to your long-term overall health. It can even impact your mood almost immediately. Try it – sit or stand up straight and take a few breaths and see how you feel. Then slump down collapsing your rib cage onto your belly. How do you feel now? Is there a difference in your mood?

Of course a lifetime of incorrect posture can be a hard habit to break.
Some muscles need to strengthen and some tensions need to be released.
If you need a hand with this, give us a call on 9477 1905 ☎️

We look forward to helping you stand corrected 😁🧍🏽‍♂‍

📚 Word of the Day: Kyphosis

The word "kyphosis" traces its origins to the Greek word "kuphōsis," meaning "a hump." It entered medical terminology in the late 17th century.

Kyphosis is a medical term used to describe a natural forward curvature of the spine, seen most obviously in the thoracic (upper back) region. When the forward curvature becomes excessive, it is known as a ‘hyperkyphosis’. This condition results in a rounded or hunched posture, where the spine appears to have a noticeable hump. Hyperkyphosis can develop due to various factors, including poor posture, degenerative changes in the spine, or underlying medical conditions. Maintaining a healthy spine and practicing good posture are essential in preventing and managing hyperkyphosis. Did you know that chiropractic care can help you improve your posture and protect your spinal health? Give us a call on 9477 1905 ☎️ to make an appointment. 📖💡

We’re often asked “what are the ‘best’ forms of exercise?”. Our answer, of course, depends on the patient. Our favourite answer is that the best type of exercise is one that you enjoy. We don’t want you to think of exercise as a chore. We want you to take joy in movement! But if we’re really pushed to list some favourites Tai Chi is up there amongst them.

Tai Chi is a graceful blend of movement and meditation so it is good for the body and the mind. It’s gentle, but effective and enhances flexibility, balance, and overall well-being. ⚖️

What’s your favourite exercise, and more importantly - why?

Struggling with stress and anxiety? 🧠🌪
Chiropractic care might be your ticket to tranquillity! 🌿✨

Here's how: Our nervous system has two branches, the sympathetic (fight-or-flight) and the parasympathetic (rest-and-digest) systems. When stress kicks in, the sympathetic system revs up, flooding our body with adrenaline. Chiropractic adjustments focus on the spine – a key channel for nerve communication. By fine-tuning spinal alignment, chiropractors aim to relieve pain, promote healing, improve mobility, AND help regulate the nervous system. We aim to encourage the parasympathetic system to step in, calming the body and mind. 🌈

Give us a call on 9477 1905 for an appointment.

In the meantime, why not try some deep breathing, a moment of mindfulness or some exercise (to pump endorphins through your body)? 🫁🎽
