This weekend I watched the Disney+ film ‘Out of my Mine’. I strongly recommend it to go on people’s watch list. It is about a girl who lives with the disability Cerebral Palsy who uses a wheelchair for mobility and is non verbal. It showed how a person with a disability when they are misunderstood, ignored and underestimated. It showed how with an AAC device that her whole world was opened up. Communication is a basic human right and it is important for people who are non verbal to be able to communicate their needs, wants and choices. Just because someone is non verbal it doesn’t mean that they have an intellectual disability. As
communication partners we always have to be open to alternative communication.

If you fly Qantas and you have a disability that you need to fly with a carer then have a look at the Qantas Carer Concession Card ✈️

The Qantas Carer Concession Card is provided to people with significant support requirements who, due to physical, sensory, intellectual, cognitive or psychosocial disability or disabilities need to fly with a carer.

Qantas is expanding this program from 28 January 2025.

Card holders and their carer will receive a 30 per cent discount off all domestic and regional base fares (excluding carrier charges, fees and taxes across all cabins, including those on sale).

International base fares (excluding carrier charges, fees and taxes) departing Australia, including those on sale, will be discounted by 10 per cent for Business, Premium Economy and Economy cabins.

I have spent the day at ASTA Sydney looking at new equipment and technology. I loved this - driving a power wheelchair through eye gaze. It was amazing to see and I’m excited to trial with some clients.

June is CMV awareness month.

CMV is the most common congenital infection resulting in childhood disability in Australia. It is important for all pregnant woman to know about CMV and how to reduce their risk.

It is exciting that Rainbow club is opening in Armidale. Rainbow club provides a personalised swimming lessons to children with disabilities. The Armidale rainbow club opens on the 6th November 2022 and are taking bookings now.
