Today was a day we will never forget.

Early this morning, both our head office and my home were under immediate threat from fire, forcing us to evacuate with very little notice. It was an incredibly stressful and emotional experience, and I cannot express enough gratitude to the CFA volunteers who put their lives on the line to protect our properties and keep us safe. These men and women are the true heroes, and they deserve every bit of recognition for the amazing work they do.

The moment CFA trucks pushed through my gate, lights flashing, needing urgent access to the back of our heavily treed property, was not for the faint-hearted. Shortly after, as I returned to quickly gather our most important possessions, the sound of the water bomber overhead was terrifying. My only thought was getting my children and two grandchildren to safety. It was one of the scariest moments of my life.

Thankfully, we all made it out safely. I am beyond proud of my incredible team who held down the fort during this crisis. With no power and no means to fight the fire ourselves, their support allowed me to focus on what mattered most: keeping my family safe.

We are now on our way home, and while today was catastrophic for many, we are safe and that is everything. Please, everyone, stay vigilant and appreciate the wonderful lives we have and the sacrifices others make to protect them. My heart goes out to all affected today, and I hope we get through this without any loss of life.

Stay safe, and thank you CFA, you are extraordinary.
