Hamstrings — “The Brakes / The Controller”

Your hamstrings earned this personality because of what they actually do all day: protect you by slowing things down. Every step you take, your leg swings forward like a pendulum. Before your foot hits the ground, your hamstrings fire to decelerate your leg, control your knee, and prepare your body for impact.

That’s braking.

They also help guide your pelvis. When your glutes aren’t doing their job, your hamstrings step in to help extend the hip and keep you moving forward. But here’s the catch—they’re not built to be the engine.

They’re built to control the engine.
So when the system is off—tight hip flexors, sleepy glutes, poor position—your hamstrings get protective. They tighten, not because they’re “bad,” but because they don’t trust what’s happening around them. They’re trying to keep your knee safe, your pelvis from dumping forward, and your body from moving too fast, too sloppy.

That’s why stretching them feels good… but doesn’t fix the problem.

Your hamstrings don’t just want length.
They want help.

When the glutes drive and the core stabilizes, the hamstrings finally relax and do what they were designed for:

FACT: Our posture can determine how we move and feel.

Think about this for a second...

Our skeleton is our structure and acts to protect all of our vital organs.

Our skeleton is made of bones.
Bones connect to bones to form joints.
Muscles cross over those joints to make movement.
Movement starts off as signal that comes from our brain.
If muscles are the wrong lengths because the joints are in the wrong position the signal that gets sent from the from will be ALTERED.

This means not only how produce and accept force changes but how your body works as a machine.

REMEMBER...Posture isn’t just how you stand—it’s how your nervous system organizes your entire life.

Also, a big thank you to Wallaroo Football Club and the boys for welcoming me, getting to know me and trusting the work, I know it's not always comfortable. I have really enjoyed helping this season. The feedback, support, and stirring up 😂 was appreciated and I look forward to next season.
