Up and out early daily this week. Physics being the focus of our endeavours. We used sustainable water rerouting, fixed up gravity drippers off the bore and prepped spring planting domes ( ex- trampolines) by making pivot door hinges. Plus some light pruning and weeding around struggling plants before the next heatwave for another week of 40+ and no rainβ˜€οΈ

This week has been a focus on managing produce, growing sustainably and providing an accessibility focus. Less water, less managing, less digging, less soreness, less worrying...to our glee we have had more consistent, pest/ disease free crops. I decided last year to focus on collecting and storing our own seeds ( and community swaps) and great rainwater recycling and soil prep this spring. We didn't spend hours with potting, seeding, planting or thinning . 90% self seeded produce with minimal early shoot removal allowing all-important sun and airflow to the plant bases. Looks unkempt but the produce is bountiful πŸ…πŸ₯’

A big week in Vic with devastating fires, floods and famine- amazing how much a little help and positivity can influence individuals on a not so mentally healthy path. My aim is to get people into the outdoors even if it's their own front or back yard. A positive view of your own environment can mean a whole new outlook to the day, week, month or year ahead. Here's a pic of a new beginning for client's project that I'm helping them learn to love πŸ’šβ€οΈπŸŒ±

Working early to beat the heat comes with challenges this week, bushfire smoke, poor air quality, water restrictions and tree drop risk.... but property fire prevention is a priority with clients currently and understandably so in our locality atm!

If you've been through a bushfire before, the disaster might bring back difficult memories and feelings of sadness, fear, and grief.

Recovery looks different for everyone and it can take time.

Strong emotions are a natural response to what is happening. Talking about your feelings and staying connected to others can help.

If you are finding things hard, asking for support is a sign of strength and often the first step in recovery.

🚨 Bushfire Smoke & Your Health 🚨

With bushfires burning in our region, many of us are experiencing smoky air that can impact breathing, energy levels and overall wellbeing.

Here are a few simple ways to take care of yourself during this time:

🌫️ Limit smoke exposure
Stay indoors as much as possible, especially if you have asthma, heart conditions, are pregnant, or have young children.

🏠 Create a clean-air space at home
Keep windows and doors closed and, if you have one, run an air purifier. Even a split system on β€œrecirculate” can help.

😷 Wear a mask outside
A P2/N95 mask offers better protection if you need to be outdoors.

πŸ’§ Stay well hydrated
Drink plenty of water to help your body cope with the extra stress smoke places on your system.

🌿 Support your body
Gentle stretching, calm breathing and reducing strenuous exercise outdoors can help protect your lungs.

❀️ Listen to your body
If you notice worsening shortness of breath, chest tightness, dizziness or headaches, seek medical advice.

Our team at Wangaratta Health & Wellbeing is here to support you β€” whether it’s managing stress, supporting your breathing, or helping your body recover from the extra load.

Please take care of yourselves and each other during this challenging time. 🀍
