Hands up if you know what the “Sunday Night Stress” or the “Sunday scaries” is like 😅👀

Well, the Cooking Up Independence digital session plans for Occupational Therapists were developed to help prevent that. 🤝🏽

We all need tools that:

🧠 Reduce Cognitive Load: Stop reinventing the wheel for every session and use session plans that are customisable and replicable across a variety of clinical needs.

👌🏽Ensure Quality: High-quality resources mean we don’t compromise on care, even when budgets are tight.

📍Facilitate Handover: They provide a professional roadmap for AHAs and Support Workers to follow.

🤸🏽‍♀️ Flexible therapy input: Can be used to provide 1-1 sessions or develop and run effective and efficient groups.

In a system that is often less than ideal, we have to be creative to ensure our participants continue to build their skills without the therapist burning out.

Have you heard of/used the Cooking Up Independence resources before?
We’d love to hear how they’ve helped you beat the Sunday night stress 💙

Ever thought I just don’t have the time to develop the handover for the allied health assistant or support worker? Or thought, I don’t know what to do to make the next session engaging and motivating for the participant? Do you sometimes feel there is too much going on in your brain to have time to be creative in therapy?

Maybe the Cooking up Independence Digital session plans are for you. This is not the book, but a resource for OT’s to use 1-1 therapy, groups, provide as a handover to AHAs and Support Workers. Check out the video below.
Past…to help visualise we have printed the digital session plans into a book for people to glance their eyes over at ATSA in Sydney and Brisbane. If you are there, come on over and check it out! .

Attending ATSA as an exhibitor for the first time was an incredible experience. While my product was small in comparison to some of the massive tech on display, the interest in kitchen-based life skills was overwhelming.

It reminded me that at the heart of all this technology and equipment, we are all striving for the same thing: helping people live as valued, visible members of their communities.

I am so excited to be part of the Sydney exhibition! Looking forward to meeting you, if you have bought the Cooking up Independence resources or are interested, I would love to meet you and say hi!

The vision for the Cooking Up Independence resources was always to create something that wasn’t just functional, but beautiful—a book a participant would be proud to have on their coffee table.

That vision came to life through the incredible talent of my dear friend and local artist, Georgina Wills.

Georgina recently finished her latest exhibition and continues to win well-deserved awards for her mastery of paper art. If you look closely at the images in our resources, it is hard to believe they are constructed from layers upon layers of paper. The detail is brilliant.

I wanted an artist who understood that visual appeal is a key part of engagement. Georgina delivered exactly that.

You can find more of her stunning work on Instagram at .

Learning the key difference between sauteing and frying onion goes a long way for our clients so that they can maximise their cooking skills at home!

At our Patch Plate and Pals group we believe in the importance of learning important skills like how to use a knife safely. This takes practice but with practice and repetition most of our clients master the finemotor and coordination skills needed.

In posts gone by I have recognised Georgia Nyman and our history. Georgia was a primary school student selected to participate in a partnership initiative between Georgian Wills (music teacher), Donna Samon (Neuro Physiotherapist) and myself (OT). Heartbeat was a drumming program where skilled students partnered with participants with neurological deficits to bring research on neuroplasticity into reality. Georgia was one of the students, fast forward a few decades and Georgia and I reconnected when I was in desperate need to find someone to do all the graphic design. Georgia is one talented woman, and her focus and commitment to nail the brief and bring my ideas to life is commendable. I have loved working with Georgia so much that she now works with me permanently. Managing my social media, keeping the website up to date and developing clinical resources I can use with participants. She is a real gem, and she really loves making sure what she develops will add value to Manfield Consulting’s perspective. I keep telling her, she is an OT in the making! So practical, creative and a great problem solver, all key skills that are essential for a great therapist!

You can’t talk about cooking without a great chef and amazing support worker. I am so fortunate to have met Michelle Michelli on this journey. Michelle is the talent who wrote the recipes for our resources. She balanced the need for simple, followable steps with flavours that anyone would be proud to serve. Because therapy should taste good, too!

Michelle was first a chef, but her love for food and helping people enjoy good food brought her to working as a support worker. Michelle is a great support worker, being practical and patient she has worked with many participants to build their skills with cooking and independent living skills. Michelle runs her own business but helps me in our Patch Plate and Pals group. Thanks so much for being part of the team Michelle!
