When I treat adults with ADHD, I meet some of the best of the best maskers on the planet.

■ Masking means deliberately or unconsciously suppressing or covering up traits associated with ADHD. This can include:

• Over-preparing or over-organizing to hide executive function struggles.
• Mirroring others’ behaviour in social situations.
• Suppressing impulsive thoughts or behaviours even when it's uncomfortable.
• Forcing eye contact or rehearsing conversations to appear "neurotypical."
• Hiding hyperactivity by turning it inward (e.g., anxious fidgeting instead of obvious movement).

■ Why Do People with ADHD Mask?

• To avoid stigma or being seen as lazy, careless, or "too much."
• Due to internalised shame from years of criticism or underachievement.
• To meet social or academic expectations.
• Because they weren’t diagnosed, and masking became a coping mechanism.

■ The Hidden Cost of Masking

While masking can help people "get by," it often leads to:

• Burnout or mental fatigue from constant self-monitoring.
• Anxiety, depression, or other co-occurring conditions.
• A delayed or missed diagnosis, especially in women.
• A sense of identity confusion ("Who am I when I'm not masking?").

■ The most important factors in later life diagnosis, commonly overlooked are:

• Medication is not the answer to all your problems, you have to deliberately redesign your behavioural patterns and work through the deep seeded feelings of shame and worthlessness. Getting the right mentor who understands you, is key.

• You need to recalibrate your nervous system to operate in a smaller range of peaks and troughs so somatic therapies like Kinesiology will give you the most improvement vs hours of talk therapy.

• There will be disassociation between the mind and body and they need to be on the same team, learning to be whole takes time so hang in there and don't give up.

As the second generation Kinesiology elders retire and pass on from this world, I'm left with a sense of anxiety and sadness. In the last 15 years, I have watched something powerful and substantial be reduced to new age whimsy.

The current generation, seem unwilling to really dig in and unlock all the wonder on offer down the mind body rabbithole. Instead, preferring feel good existential tokenism, rather than deep reconnecting.

Modern life is somewhat responsible for this. When you influence and distract people into seeking things that steal their capacity and offer little contentment, they tend to live outside themselves.

Leaving the body burnt out and at the mercy of the accelerating mind. Dissociation just feels like the new normal then.

This makes me wonder, how much ancient knowledge we have lost over the years across all the fields of learning. And more importantly, where does my responsibility begin and end in passing on the keys passed down to me.

At this time of confusion, I would love to hear everyone's thoughts about this, if you feel like sharing.

If it wasn't so harmful to our health, we might even consider it beautiful...

I was reminded the other day of a client who came to me that had all the symptoms of prolonged mould exposure: brain fog, ongoing respiratory issues, endless fatigue, lethargy and joint pain.

He had been a cyclist all his life and couldn't seem to ride his old distances no matter how hard he trained. The muscle testing lead us to the mould and after detox, he was back in the saddle!

Black mould is a toxic fungus that thrives in damp, humid environments.

Health Effects of Black Mould Exposure

1. Respiratory Issues- coughing, wheezing, nasal congestion, and throat irritation. People with asthma or chronic lung diseases may experience worsening symptoms.

2. Allergic Reactions – Black mould can trigger allergic responses, including sneezing, itchy eyes, skin rashes, and sinus congestion.

3. Toxic Reactions – Prolonged exposure to mycotoxins can cause headaches, dizziness, nausea, and even neurological problems in severe cases.

4. Immune System Suppression – People with weakened immune systems (such as the elderly, infants, or individuals undergoing chemotherapy) are more vulnerable to infections from mould exposure.

My 5 Natural Remedies for Killing Black Mould

1. White Vinegar – Undiluted vinegar can be sprayed onto mouldy surfaces, left for an hour, and then wiped clean. It kills around 82% of mould species.

2. Baking Soda – Mix baking soda with water or vinegar to create a paste, scrub the affected area, and rinse thoroughly. Baking soda also helps absorb moisture to prevent mould regrowth.

3. Clove Oil - Add ¼ teaspoon of clove oil to 1 liter of water. Avoid using it undiluted, as it is very strong and can stain surfaces. It contains eugenol, a powerful antifungal compound that helps eliminate mould spores and prevent regrowth.

4. Tea Tree Oil – A natural antifungal, tea tree oil can be mixed with water (one teaspoon per cup) and sprayed onto affected areas. Do not rinse to allowas it helps prevent regrowth.

Stay healthy

I was talking to a friend recently about jealousy. It's such a frowned upon emotion, yet it's the expression that determines if it's healthy or unhealthy. Here is the difference:

🩷 Healthy Jealousy 🩷

This type of jealousy serves as a natural response to potential threats and can even strengthen a relationship when managed well. It includes:

● Awareness of value: Feeling a bit jealous can remind you of how much you care about your partner and value your relationship.

● Motivation for improvement: It can push you to invest more effort into the relationship, fostering deeper emotional intimacy.

● Respect for boundaries: Acknowledging your feelings without acting irrationally encourages open and honest conversations.

● Leads to constructive communication: Expressing concerns in a calm, non-accusatory way helps build trust rather than break it.

❤️‍🩹 Unhealthy Jealousy ❤️‍🩹

This form of jealousy is rooted in insecurity, control, or fear and can damage a relationship. It includes:

● Possessiveness and control: Trying to dictate your partner’s actions, such as who they talk to or spend time with.

● Constant suspicion: Assuming the worst without evidence, leading to accusations and interrogations.

● Lack of trust: Instead of fostering intimacy, it creates emotional distance and anxiety.

● Emotional or verbal abuse: Extreme jealousy can escalate into manipulation, guilt-tripping, or even threats.

💞 How to Handle Jealousy in a Healthy Way 💞

♡ Self-reflection: Identify if your jealousy stems from personal insecurity or a genuine relationship concern.

♡ Open communication: Share your feelings with your partner in a calm and honest manner.

♡ Build trust: Strengthen your relationship by prioritising honesty, reassurance, and mutual respect.

♡ Set healthy boundaries: Both partners should feel secure while maintaining individual freedom.

In short, healthy jealousy is a signal to check in and nurture your relationship, while unhealthy jealousy can be destructive and manipulative.
