Sam is an Operator who works out of the Mount Thorley Mine at Bulga - Upper Hunter Valley. Due to exposure to excessive noise levels during his long shifts at the site, he was in need of top quality hearing protection.

Sam chose to have multicoloured orange and red category 5 rated Insta-Molds custom made to fit his ears.

Photo 1 - Molds were fitted to Sam’s ears and left in place for approximately 5 to 10 minutes, whilst the Mold cured to the shape of his ears.

Photo 2 - is the finished product with cords attached. The cords are useful as many customers choose to hang them around their necks to avoid loss and keeping them together.

Sam’s set of Insta-Molds were made “on the spot”. The whole appointment taking about 45 minutes and the best part was he was able to take them home with him on the day. No waiting weeks to get the finished product.

Colour psychology suggests that people often feel drawn to certain colours because they reflect parts of their personality.

Interestingly, when people choose their custom earplugs, the combinations are often fascinating.

We are a local business with a passion for hearing protection for people of all ages. We primarily service Newcastle and the Hunter Valley NSW and make custom hearing protection for individuals, small business and large scale operations, including the RAAF Base at Williamtown.

Our custom Insta-Molds are used in motor sports, swimming, recreational activities such as reading and listening to music. Utilised by miners, pilots, musicians, kids with grommets, security - the list is endless. They can even be used for sleeping!

Lots of colour options available and they are made from medical grade silicone. They are class 5 rated hearing protection and Insta-Molds can be made “on the spot” and within an hour! Team them up with electronics to listen to music or chat on your phone. Great for musicians and long leisurely rides on your motorbike.

Hunter Hearing Protection is the preferred provider of hearing protection for RAAF Williamtown NSW Australia.

RAAF is fully committed to protecting the hearing of its employees. We attend the Williamtown site each year and make up to 300 Insta-Molds at any given time for a variety of employees. All molds are made to comply with Australian AS/NZ1270-2002 as class 5 hearing protection.

Our molds are made from the highest grade of medical grade silicone, are washable and hygienic, are hard wearing but soft and pliable and so very comfortable to wear on long shifts. They are able to be made with a neck cord to keep them together and if you wear glasses or head protection, that’s no problem either.

Are you a Shooter? Have you heard of “Shooters ear”?

Shooters ear is acoustic trauma that can occur from loud sounds, including gun blasts. Did you know that when you shoot, the sound can easily reach 140 plus dB. It can instantly damage the tiny hairs in your ears which allow you to understand speech or enjoy music. The ear suffering the most damage is more likely to be the one on the opposite side. For example, a left handed rifle shooter is most likely to experience right sided hearing loss and damage.

Signs of shooters ear include humming, ringing or other sounds in the ear. You may experience difficulty understanding speech with or without background noise or muffled hearing. If you notice anything unusual,it’s imperative that you have your hearing checked by a qualified professional and even if you don’t notice anything unusual, regular hearing checks are advisable. Remember once it’s gone………it’s gone!

Sonic II ear valves were developed in the 1960s in Western Australia and were called the Lee Sonic Ear Valve. Fast forward 60 odd years and sonic valves are still protecting the hearing of shooters everywhere.

The construction of the sonic II valve allows acceptable sounds through but cuts out dangerous sound levels. Your hearing is protected when the passive valves are activated (they close) when dangerous levels of sound are received. Best part about these is that you can hear normally and they will only activate (close) when it’s needed.

At Hunter Hearing Protection we can have you set up with a set of custom made Insta-Molds made from medical grade silicone with Sonic II valves attached in under an hour.

Emma is my legend liaison person for Delta Electricity at the Vale’s Point Power Station at Mannering Park.

Emma was allocated a set of Insta-Molds for work purposes at the power station by Delta Electricity and then she chose to have a multicoloured set made for personal use.

Insta-Mold earplugs can be made in either solid or multicolour shades. The choice is yours!

David needed a set of Insta-Mold Motorcycle Custom Earplugs to kill the wind noise and protect his ears when riding his motorbike. He chose multicoloured molds to differentiate his left ear from his right ear.

Did you know that travelling at 100km per hour on the open road, the wind noise travels around your helmet at close to 104dB. After a long ride, this can make you feel fatigued, causing ringing in your ears as well as headaches.

With a set of premium medical grade silicone custom made hearing protection for motorcyclists, you will notice that the wind noise is all but gone, yet you can still hear the sound of your engine, the note of the exhaust and other vehicles around you.

If you have a helmet intercom system and use our custom earplugs you will hear sounds clearer as you are not fighting against wind and road noise. The speakers are located inside the helmet and the sound will still travel into your ears. You will hear the music clearly and can communicate with your riding companions. No need for sign language.

Do you need new Pilot CEP Monitors?
If you answered yes…read on!!

Josh is a trainee pilot and Hunter Hearing Protection was able to help him out with a custom made set of CEP Monitors. We were able to make them “on the spot” using our highest rated instant medical grade silicone. The silicone offers up to 40.5dB reduction at 4000Hz but will still let low level sound south as voice through. Along with quality Single Knowles Balanced Armature, Josh will receive crystal clear sound. They are easy to clean and slim fit so won’t dislodge when he takes his helmet on and off and will stay in place once fitted.

The brass CEP connector was fitted to an offset cable and for ease of wear, one side was 29cm long and the other was 38cm long. It was heat sealed at the connection to prevent breakage.

Frequency: 11Hz Sound Pressure level:105.5dB
Impedance: 48 Ohms.

For a fully custom look, Josh chose blue for his right ear and white for his left to differentiate between ears and the very best part was that he was able to take them home with him on the day.

Hunter Hearing Protection is the preferred provider of hearing protection for Delta Electricity at the Vale’s Point Power Station on the Central Coast of NSW.

We have made molds for a variety of workers, including electricians, operators and office staff.

Hunter Hearing Protection is able to supply businesses with a breakdown cost analysis to demonstrate the savings that can be made by utilising our molds as opposed to disposables ear plugs over a 2 year period.

Good morning

As many of you are aware, I have been on extended leave and am now moving premises. In the coming months Hunter Hearing Protection will be back in full swing and I will also be doing individual appointments again.

I will keep you all informed via this page when things are ready to ramp back up again. At the moment there may seem like an influx of posts to this page.
