A huge thank you for their in-kind grant, which made it possible for us to deliver a year-long swimming lessons program for women.

Delivered term-by-term, with five women participating each term, this program has been about so much more than learning to swim — it’s been about confidence, safety and reclaiming space in the water.

Monday marked the first day back of term and the final sessions of this program.

We’re incredibly grateful for the support that helped make such a meaningful initiative possible for our community.

Demand for women’s health and domestic violence support in our region has surged, leaving many women waiting months for care or travelling long distances to access services.

We are calling for government funding to establish a permanent Northern Illawarra site - ensuring women can access counselling, reproductive health care and violence support close to home, when they need it most.

February is Ovarian Cancer Awareness Month

Ovarian cancer is often called the silent disease — and the statistics show why awareness matters.

Every day in Australia, five women are diagnosed with ovarian cancer
The five-year survival rate is just 49%, compared to 92% for breast cancer
Early detection and symptom awareness can make a life-saving difference
This February, we’re encouraging women and their loved ones to learn the signs, start conversations, and access reliable information and support.

Explore trusted resources, fact sheets and guides here:

Together, we can help improve awareness, understanding and outcomes.

A big THANK YOU to Share the Dignity for delivering Dignity Bags to our Centre, along with much-needed sanitary products for our clients. For many of the women who visit our Centre, access to period products can be a barrier to dignity, comfort and wellbeing.

Your generosity helps ensure that no one has to go without the essentials — and that every woman feels supported, respected, and cared for.

Thank you for standing with women in our community and for the ongoing work you do to promote dignity for all. We are so grateful for your support!!

Solidarity Statement | 26 January

At Illawarra Women’s Health Centre, we recognise that 26 January is a day of mourning for many Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people.

Out of respect and in solidarity, the Warilla Centre will be open tomorrow, ensuring women in our community can continue to access support, connection and care.

We acknowledge the ongoing strength, resilience and survival of First Nations people, and we remain committed to walking alongside Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities in the pursuit of truth, healing, and justice.

If you need support tomorrow, our doors are open.

Always was, always will be Aboriginal land.

Have you joined one of our Centre Groups or Workshops?

In 2025, an incredible 7,368 women and girls attended one or more of our 879 groups and workshops at the Centre — and we couldn’t be prouder of the community that continues to grow here.

Our groups are about connection, health and wellbeing, and belonging. Hearing how they impact women’s lives is what keeps us going.

Here’s some feedback we recently received from one of our participants:
“I have made friends in the group after emigrating from the UK and not knowing anyone other than family here. The group has been a godsend for both my physical and mental health. Thank you!”

Have you participated in one of our groups or workshops?
Is there a group you’d love to see offered at the Centre?
We’d love to hear your ideas — drop a comment below or let us know next time you’re in.

To see what’s coming up, check out our monthly timetable here:

All women are welcome!!
