We came together at McCabe Park, Wollongong, for a vigil marking the International Day for the Elimination of Violence Against Women.
Our community paused to honour and remember the women killed by gendered violence in 2025.
Hosted by the Women's Health Centre, the 's Trauma Recovery Centre, and Women Illawarra, this vigil marked the beginning of the global 16 Days of Activism campaign, an international call to end gender-based violence in all its forms.
Thank you to everyone who joined us, stood with us, and helped amplify the message.

There is no ceasefire when at least 312 Palestinians have been killed in Israeli attacks, and about 760 injured since 10 October 2025.

Women and children continue to disproportionately bear the pain and trauma of this genocide. It is a horror without end.

Please joinn us at our 22nd monthly breakfast - in solidarity and with for our Palestinian sisters.

Key landmarks in Wollongong will light up in orange over the next three nights to mark the International Day for the Elimination of Violence Against Women and to launch the 16 Days of Activism campaign.
This forms part of Unite for 2500, led by the International Women's Day - Illawarra Committee, the Illawarra Women's Health Centre and our Women's Trauma Recovery Centre, with support from .
Campaign partners hope the light display will encourage people to honour the women and children killed and fight for the living, reflecting the core message - For every woman killed, we stand united. Safe. Everywhere. Always.
In Australia, a woman is killed every week by a current or former partner. Over 50 years, that means at least 2,500 women, tragically aligning with Wollongong’s postcode, 2500.
Unite for 2500 urges the Illawarra to stand together, remember victims, support survivors, call out violent behaviour and say “Enough” every day.
The buildings lighting up in orange during evenings until November 28 include Wollongong Central’s Keira building, the , Crown Street Mall lighting, City Beach Function Centre, IMB Head Office, and Wollongong Town Hall.
