Hot Damn!
I got set straight. After hanging with my family - A family that's full of love despite the incredibly hard things we've each gone through individually and collectively; a family that chooses peace and unity over and over when we could easily decide to let difference pull us apart - I felt already amazing.
The pastries and food definitely helped (at first, but then there's only so much sugar and butter I can truly take 😅).
Then, something even more incredible happened.
I got set straight.
Mentors flying right left and centre.
I shared my vision and got reminded of a few things.
1. Don't reinvent the wheel. Read, tweak, follow. Some people have done the hard work of trailblazing, adjust their path to your work.
2. Check your biases and ego, especially when you are being righteous.
3. And more importantly: Do not compromise. Do not soften your voice to avoid rocking the boat. Rock that thing!
And to be completely honest, it might just be where I have to channel my rage.
I'd been wondering what to do with my rage. The wrath I feel towards injustice (against women, people of colour of which I am part, children, peoples, nature) and manipulative practices of governments and media.
And then I met Wayne, visual activist who turned his anger into art.
My rage will have to go into being uncompromising in my projects.
4. Big things require another level of commitment.
Most significantly even, the last 3 weeks reminded me how loved I am - it's easy to forget when you're far from people that know you deeply;
I am so guided and carried;
I've impacted so many. That, you see, matters to me. Because everything I do is to help others do better faster than I did. All I do is to lift you, to give you the courage, the strength, the inspiration to take your life by its horns and ride away into the sunset if you're so enclined.
~ Thank you Tessa for caring for me, for your incredible love and gentleness for your clever mind and strong hugs. For your honesty and presence. Brixton is lucky to have you ~
