Cooler weather can sometimes lead to dry, irritated eyes.
As the air temperature drops, so does humidity — which may affect eye comfort for some people.
If your eyes feel dry this winter, consider keeping lubricating eye drops handy and speak with your optometrist about effective ways to stay comfortable.

June is Cataract Awareness Month, so we thought we'd take the time to raise awareness about this common eye condition. Cataracts affect around 50% of Australians over 65, and is the leading cause of blindness worldwide. To put it simply, a cataract is a 'clouding' of the eye's lens, making it more difficult for light to pass through.
Early detection is key, and it's as easy as a painless check during a routine eye health assessment.
If you have any concerns in relation to cataracts, book an appointment with one of our Optometrists today: Phone 0249 474 577

May is Macula Month, so we thought we'd take the time to shine a light on macular disease.
The most common macular diseases are age-related macular degeneration (AMD) and diabetic eye disease, including diabetic retinopathy and diabetic macular oedema. Macular disease is the leading cause of blindness and severe vision loss in Australia, affecting an estimated 1.9 million Australians.
You can have early signs of macular disease without knowing it. However, when symptoms do appear, they can include:
- Difficulty reading
- Vision distortion
- Dark patches in the central vision
If you notice any of these symptoms, you should come in to Ian Emslie, Optometrist for an eye exam. Early detection and prompt intervention are crucial to saving sight. Together, we can raise awareness and make a difference!

As summer comes to an end, it is important to protect your eyes from UV all year round.

Just like your skin, your eyes need protection from harmful UV rays. Without proper eyewear, you're at increased risk of damaging your vision.

Consistent, unprotected exposure to the sun may lead to issues like cataracts, pterygium (a fleshy growth on the eye), skin cancer of the eyelid, and premature aging around the eyes. Ensure you have a pair of sunglasses with a category 3 for effective UV protection.

Let’s keep our eyes safe in any season.
