Advanced Physiotherapy and Exercise Physiology
(1)

Advanced Physiotherapy was established with the aim of providing an elite athlete treatment approach to our community. The "elite athlete" approach encompasses
- rapid response
- early diagnosis and access to imaging
- treatment approaches in line with the latest evidence
- access to equipment when required
- therapists who sub-specialise in certain areas
- easy access to medical specialists and other members of the health care team

We have achieved this by developing a purpose build facility, including a client/patient only gym which is free for our patients to use for the duration of their rehabilitation. Our sporting passion is soccer, but we are well placed to cope with most sports. We have been chosen to be the Physiotherapy provider for
- Newcastle Jets A-League
- Australians women's soccer team (Jaclyn Allen - assistant Physio)
- Mini Matildas (Jaclyn Allen)
- Emerging Jets

The Musculoskeletal Syndrome of Menopause
Menopause is more than hot flushes. As estrogen levels fall, many women notice new aches and pains, sore tendons, stiff shoulders, and a drop in muscle and bone strength

When these problems cluster together, researchers call it the “musculoskeletal syndrome of menopause.” It includes joint pain, tendinopathy (tendon irritation), frozen shoulder, sarcopenia (loss of muscle), and bone loss (osteopenia/osteoporosis). These changes can affect work, sport, caring roles and sleep—but the good news is there’s a lot we can do.

Why Building and Maintaining Muscle Mass from Your 30s Onward Is Essential
As a women’s health physiotherapist, one of the most important messages I can share is this: your muscle mass is your long-term health investment. From your 30s onward, and particularly during the menopause transition, preserving and building muscle becomes critical—not just for strength, but for your overall wellbeing.

Vaginal Pessaries: A Conservative Option for Pelvic Organ Prolapse
Pelvic organ prolapse (POP) affects millions of women worldwide, often impacting daily comfort, bladder or bowel control, and quality of life
While pelvic floor muscle training (PFMT) is a cornerstone of conservative management, vaginal pessaries offer an effective, low-risk option for symptom relief—particularly when used alongside physiotherapy.

Strong Bones, Strong Body: Why Exercise Is Essential for Bone Health
When we think about protecting our bones, most people think of calcium or vitamin D. But one of the most powerful tools we have to maintain—and even improve—bone mineral density (BMD) is exercise, particularly resistance and impact training.
As we age, especially post-menopause, we naturally lose bone mass. This increases the risk of osteoporosis, which often remains silent until a fracture occurs. Fortunately, research shows that the right kind of physical activity can help preserve and even increase BMD—especially in women.

Pelvic Organ Prolapse: What You Need to Know & How Physiotherapy Can Help
Pelvic organ prolapse (POP) affects up to 50% of women who have given birth vaginally, though not all experience symptoms.
It occurs when the pelvic organs (bladder, uterus, bowel) descend into the vaginal space due to weakening of the pelvic floor muscles and connective tissues. Symptoms may include a sensation of vaginal heaviness or bulge, pelvic discomfort, bladder or bowel changes, and sexual dysfunction.

The Truth About “Sciatica”
Why leg pain isn’t always from your leg — and how to treat it
“Sciatica” is a term used a lot, but it’s often misunderstood or misused. People say they have sciatica when they feel pain in their buttock or down the back of the leg — but not all leg pain is true sciatica. About 5–10% of people with low back pain also experience symptoms of sciatica, and it’s a major reason people seek help from doctors and physiotherapists. Sciatica can be painful and worrying, but with the right care, most people recover without surgery.

Cracking Knees: Harmless or a Warning Sign?
Why your knees make noise — and when to worry about it
Ever stood up and heard your knees crack or pop? You’re not alone. Knee noises — known as crepitus — are very common, especially during squatting, kneeling, or walking up stairs. In fact, studies suggest that up to 99% of people experience knee sounds at some point.
