Advanced Physiotherapy and Injury Prevention “Where everyone is treated like an elite athlete”
Advanced Physiotherapy and Exercise Physiology
(1)

Advanced Physiotherapy was established with the aim of providing an elite athlete treatment approach to our community. The "elite athlete" approach encompasses
- rapid response
- early diagnosis and access to imaging
- treatment approaches in line with the latest evidence
- access to equipment when required
- therapists who sub-specialise in certain areas
- easy access to medical specialists and other members of the health care team

We have achieved this by developing a purpose build facility, including a client/patient only gym which is free for our patients to use for the duration of their rehabilitation. Our sporting passion is soccer, but we are well placed to cope with most sports. We have been chosen to be the Physiotherapy provider for
- Newcastle Jets A-League
- Australians women's soccer team (Jaclyn Allen - assistant Physio)
- Mini Matildas (Jaclyn Allen)
- Emerging Jets

Why Building and Maintaining Muscle Mass from Your 30s Onward Is Essential
As a women’s health physiotherapist, one of the most important messages I can share is this: your muscle mass is your long-term health investment. From your 30s onward, and particularly during the menopause transition, preserving and building muscle becomes critical—not just for strength, but for your overall wellbeing.

The Unsung Roles of Muscle Through Menopause—It’s Not Just About Strength
We often think of muscle in terms of strength and movement—but it plays so many more behind-the-scenes roles, especially as we transition through menopause. As a physiotherapist, I’ve seen firsthand how understanding these hidden benefits of muscle can completely transform how women approach their health.

When Wrist Pain Is More Than Just a Sprain
A Small Joint with Big Problems

Wrist pain is surprisingly common, especially in people who use their hands a lot — including office workers, gym-goers, tradies, and carers. While many assume it’s “just a sprain,” wrist pain can stem from overuse injuries, tendon problems, or joint instability. Left untreated, it can lead to chronic issues that affect everyday tasks like typing, lifting, cooking, or gripping. Wrist pain accounts for thousands of GP and physio visits each year, and it’s a growing issue in our device-driven world.

How to Prevent Hamstring Strains
A Painful and Persistent Injury

Hamstring strains are one of the most common injuries in running and field sports like football, rugby, and athletics. They account for up to 20% of all sports injuries, and they’re well known for one thing — coming back. In fact, up to one-third of hamstring injuries reoccur, often within the first few weeks after returning to sport. This results in missed games, extended rehab, and high treatment costs, both for athletes and weekend warriors. But the good news? Hamstring strains are largely preventable with the right training.

Osgood-Schlatter in Active Kids: A Growing Pain
A Common Cause of Knee Pain in Young Athletes

Osgood-Schlatter disease is a frequent reason for knee pain in active children and teens, especially those going through a growth spurt. It typically affects kids aged 10 to 15, and is more common in sports that involve running, jumping, or rapid changes in direction — like soccer, basketball, and athletics. It can affect up to 1 in 10 active children.

Headaches from the Neck? Yes, It’s a Thing
A Hidden Trigger for Headaches

Many people don’t realise that some headaches actually start in the neck. These are called cervicogenic headaches, and they’re more common than you might think. They often affect office workers, manual labourers, and anyone who holds their head in awkward positions for long periods — like driving, scrolling on phones, or looking at screens. Cervicogenic headaches make up around 15–20% of all headaches, and they lead to lost productivity, increased stress, and frequent use of pain medications — adding to both personal and community healthcare costs.

ACL Tears: From Injury to Comeback
A Major Blow for Active People

An ACL tear is one of the most serious injuries in sport. It affects the anterior cruciate ligament, a key stabiliser in the knee. These injuries are especially common in sports that involve cutting, pivoting, or sudden stops, like soccer, basketball, netball, and skiing. In Australia, around 14,000 ACL reconstructions are performed each year — one of the highest rates in the world. The cost to the community is huge: surgery, rehab, time off work or sport, and the long-term risk of knee arthritis later in life.

Heel Pain and Plantar Fasciitis: Stepping into Trouble
Why that first step in the morning hurts — and what you can do about it
Do you wake up and feel a sharp pain in your heel when you take your first few steps? You’re not alone. This is one of the classic signs of plantar fasciitis, a common cause of heel pain. It affects about 1 in 10 people at some point in their life, especially runners, people who are on their feet all day, and those who are overweight.

Shin Splints: What’s Causing That Ache?
Why your shins hurt after running — and how to stop it
If you’ve ever taken up running or started a new exercise routine and felt a dull ache in your lower legs, you’ve probably had shin splints. This condition is very common in runners, dancers, and athletes starting pre-season training. It accounts for up to 20% of running injuries and is especially common in people who increase their training too quickly. While shin splints often settle with rest, they can turn into longer-term problems — like stress fractures — if ignored. That means lost fitness, missed sport, and time off work or school.
