After the night, it is always day.
It's okay to feel dark.

The harsh winters always give way to spring.
It's okay if your days are sometimes stormy.

When the turbulent weather breaks there are always clear skies.
It's okay to feel battered and tired.

A broken and cracked road can always be mended.
There is always hope.

It's okay not to be okay.

World Su***de Prevention Day happens on September the 10th every year and is all about remembering loved ones that we’ve lost to su***de, raising awareness about mental health, and encouraging all of us to have open and supportive conversations to ensure that no one faces their darkest moments alone.

As a Peer Support Worker at Head to Health - Baw Baw it is a time for me to reflect on my own experiences and to connect with my clients by spreading hope and working on a shared goal of preventing su***de and spreading awareness of those in need of mental health support.

This year’s theme is ‘Changing the Narrative on Su***de’ and the aim is for all of us to change how we think and talk about su***de. This is something we can do by using empathy and openness to help us all feel connected, so that those who are struggling can feel heard and supported.

Ongoing professional development is an important aspect of our program at H2H - Baw Baw.

Recently five H2H staff members received valuable training through Gippsland PHN and Resolution Education around communication and de-escalation to keep every person safe at Head to Health.

Thanks, Darren! Pictured below with our H2H Care Coordinator and Peer Worker, Victor, and our H2H RN Sally.

📍 Health Insights - spotlight on Mental Health in Baw Baw

Baw Baw is one of the fastest-growing regions in Australia, with Warragul and Drouin leading the surge. As the population rises, so too does the need for accessible health services. Mental health support is a key priority, with 10% of residents having a GP consult related to mental health, compared to 8.7% in Gippsland and 7.9% nationally.

To help meet this growing need, funding has been provided for the Baw Baw Head to Health clinic in Warragul, as part of a broader effort to ensure timely, local, and person-centred mental health support. Head to Health offers care navigation, access to a multidisciplinary team, and a team-care approach that complements GP services. It’s available to Victorians of all ages – whether they’re experiencing mental health challenges for the first time or managing ongoing conditions.

There a is also further support available for mild-moderate mental health support needs at these services in Warragul:
• Erin Dolan & Associates
• Olivia’s Place
