NEW MOON in Ta**us, Krittika Nakshatra - Seeing the truth of who we are.

I intend to live a purposeful life, that keeps me well, that uses my inherent gifts and strengths, and that is meaningful to me. Naturally as a mother, I also want to nourish each of my three children as a whole person – with body, mind, and spirit - and create a beautiful life in sacred partnership with my husband in his wholeness.

To this end, I have needed to become self-aware and know my true nature in body, mind, and spirit. This empowers me to be self-responsible to live in balance and harmony within my body and being. I no longer need to navigate my highly sensitive life by ideas, opinions, emotions, or outer conditions – I live from within my inner stillness to observe, learn, discern, choose, and act to craft my holistic well-being in real-time – to support my inputs, digestion, and use of energy. I have learnt to be well by my own understanding without validation or support from others – my body is my barometer of my right choice. I value and trust myself, and work with the truth of who I am and how I am using myself to craft my daily experience of my life. I have reestablished strong and flourishing ancestral lineage roots, benefiting from wisdom gained through past life experience, both my own and ancestral. I have learnt that what is healing for me may be harmful to another nature and vice versa; this has been supremely helpful to know as a life-partner and especially as a mother.

My dis-ease is a matter of inner conflict and living against my conscience, inner knowing, and better judgment – I have doubted and lost myself in others, caring for their well-being while compromising my natural boundaries, values, and principles. It is empowering to see my own choice in this so I can transform my character and behaviour. It is healing for all concerned to know myself and my healing path without feeling the need to exclude myself, cut people out of my life, or blame others for my shortcomings. The foundation of what I do for myself now is good for all.

HELPING YOU BE WELL IN BODY, MIND, AND SPIRIT

Sharing Mother Nature's inspiration and nourishment from my garden with this morning's autumn harvest in West Gippsland, Australia ...

I recognise that we have to know how to use what we grow, so I want to support you to be comfortable with simple ways of well-being with this food:
❤️ Chilli and tomato provide pungency and raise digestive fire. Use these nightshades sparingly if your body naturally burns hot. Deseed and add to stir fries, braises, casseroles. Use tomato in salad or stews.
❤️Parsley can be chopped up and used as garnish or as greens. Mint is lovely chopped up in salads or added to drinks of water. Rosemary can be added as a few sprigs to braises, stews, and casseroles.
❤️Makrut lime zest and leaves add complex freshness and flavour to asian-inspired stir fries and steamed dishes. It is quite strong and works well in chutneys too.
❤️Lemons are a healing addition as juice in hot water, or using zest, peel, or juice in food for a burst of sour sunshine. It is important for clearing lung congestion and supporting good digestion.
❤️Silverbeet is wonderful chopped up and lightly steamed as greens or added to stir fries and vegetable stews. You can use it as a replacement for spinach too.
❤️ Mesclun (mixed lettuce leaves) are a lovely salad base. Tatsoi can be added to stir fries.
❤️ Fig is best eaten fresh off the tree. Rhubarb stems can be chopped up and baked or stewed with a little water. Add a little honey, cinnamon, vanilla, maple syrup, or palm sugar to sweeten rhubarb as it is sour and astringent (do not use the toxic leaves). It is lovely used with stewed apple in a baked crumble.

I trust this provides some helpful ideas for growing and cooking these foods. Nurturing ourselves naturally with all five senses is worth it! We just have to try and practise. Affordable good eating is about quality not quantity - we really do not need much fresh, seasonal, natural wholefood for the size of our stomach.

I am an advocate for using natural, wholefood-as-medicine and behavioural practice for holistic well-being. I know we are self-empowered, naturally, to choose our nourishing inputs, support our effective digestion, and use our energy on purpose.

It is very rewarding to grow our own food. Gardening is highly creative and connects us to our food in sensory ways, from planting through to cooking and eating. This is an abundant time in our autumn garden for leafy greens and astringents such as Silverbeet, rhubarb, parsley, and lemon. Birds and possums have taken the Crab Apples but the Mandarin tree is heavily laden with ripening fruit. I am grateful for what we can grow.

The Moon nourishes our Earth with a rhythmic balance of wax and wane. This inner high tide and full moon in Libra (Swati Nakshatra) casts light on individual and relationship dynamics, in the context of our common ground as humanity. Being in right relationship with ourselves and our partners is something to contemplate. We can share our lives without compromising our true natures – we can be on common ground with mutual respect and create a life that is only possible through sacred partnership. As a loving wife of 28 years ongoing, I can say it is a transformative learning and growing beyond ego and self-interest and not losing ourselves in the other. Balance and harmony in relationship require us being emotionally and soulfully independent - we each bring truth, love, and purpose to our relationship and form roots of our life together. It is healing for me to remember that my husband and I are each whole and part of the wholeness. It is empowering for me to know my nature in body, mind, and spirit to maintain my healthy boundaries; where I stop and my husband begins, and where I stop and each of my three children begins.

Life is about wholeness and being part of the greater wholeness. We share our common ground of existence and no-one is greater or less than another – we all have inherent gifts and a role to play towards well-being.

NEW MOON is a time to be present with ourself to empty, release, clear, and restore our inner space and feeling. We can use our mind to hear our soul's knowing, open to receive what is truly nourishing for our nature, and focus our love and strength to actively craft our life with devotion.

JYOTISH
This new Moon and emotional low tide lays bare our conscience and clarity. Ashwini Nakshatra in Aries supports our spiritual fire and conviction to trust our inner wisdom and take powerful healing action - this is the time!

Are we taking care of life, individually and together? Are we protecting life?

AYURVEDA
The quality of light is sharp at this time of year making things appear stark with vivid contrasting colours. I am balancing conditions by using my energy with intention and focus, clearing, reorganising, and preparing as we flow towards winter’s quiet inner tending. The meals I am making are fresh and full of life-force, easy to digest, calming, steadying, protective. I am donning my cardigan or coat for walks in the fresh air.

WHAT HELPS YOU FEEL WELL, SUPPORTED, UPLIFTED, INSPIRED, ENERGISED - LIKE YOUR LIFE IS WORTH IT?

If you would like support to cultivate self-worth and self-trust, I am more than happy to listen and share reflective wisdom for self-awareness and ways-of-well-being using natural wholefood-as-medicine and behavioural practice. In support of to empower choosing and using a predominance of natural plant-based nourishment.

AYURVEDA
I appreciate and celebrate “our daily herbs” for the holistic, medicinal nutrition they provide. Pictured here from my family’s autumn garden are borage, sage, bay leaf, aloe vera, peppermint geranium, rosemary, lemon balm, Tulsi, echinacea, comfrey, flat leaf parsley, mint, peppermint, Baby Sun Rose, Gotu Kola, thyme, curly leaf parsley, marjoram, winter savory. I use them all in various ways for either food, herbal tea, topical medicine, or beautifying our house and garden. Variety for permaculture reasons offers balance and interwoven relationship and support of our ornamental and food plants. Herbs and medicinal plants should be used carefully with knowledge and intention, although some culinary herbs such as parsley, thyme, and marjoram are okay used in quantity. I find sage is good used in a steam bowl for cool weather nasal and lung congestion. Herbs are powerful allies for our holistic health and we can appreciate and use them simply, including to nourish our senses and use them as a cut plant in a vase (like I do with lemon balm to lift my mood indoors).

JYOTISH
FULL MOON in Virgo (Hasta Nakshatra)
For me, this full moon is all about nurturing our children to flourish by their own nature, in nature’s time. The Sun opposite in Revati Nakshatra illuminates family patterns and we are reminded of our responsibility as parents to uphold every life to be strong in our embodied, natural intelligence as we are each gifted with through our ancestral lineages. Devotion in tangible, earthly ways to intelligently create spirit in form is the high vocation of Virgo people. Paying attention to details and being astute to take initiative and skilfully craft our life through our hands, is what Hasta Nakshatra is all about. I celebrate and honour those individuals within my family who are gifted with these aspects to their nature.

FULL MOON is a time for simple celebration of all that is full and abundant in our life. What rises to the surface is easier to notice for our inner and outer tending.

A MOTHER'S REFLECTIONS
I have only to sit in silence with myself, be present in my body, feel my pulse, breathe in and out to realise that Life and Nature keep my heart beating and my lungs breathing. I trust my life’s inspiration of sense and feeling to do what is essential and possible for me. I support and nourish others to do what is essential and possible for them also, with the conscious awareness that what is healing for one nature may be harmful to another. This is what I have learnt from my lived experience as a daughter, sister, wife, mother.

NEW MOON is a time to be quietly present with ourself to empty, release, clear, and restore our inner space and feeling. We can use our mind to hear our heart and soul's knowing, open to receive what is truly nourishing for our nature, and focus our own love and strength to actively craft our life with devotion.

JYOTISH
This new Moon and emotional low tide lays bare our conscience to take care of Life and Nature on Earth, including our human-collective-family as one part of the greater Nature. We are called to remember that we share our common ground of elemental, energetic existence. We cannot afford to prop up our individual spirit of self-interest and ego desire or disrespect individual and collective boundaries. We must remember Life is not all about us.

My quiet, sacred intention is to "walk the Earth lightly" and take care of life, my own and others I am responsible for and to.

AYURVEDA
Love is in the details, and Nature surely nourishes us when we create with her in balanced, sacred partnership and abide by natural law. I grow what food I can and store a little rainwater to help water our garden because chemicals, preservatives, additives, and colours on and in food and water undermine my own and my family's health. These photos reflect what my family is nourishing ourselves with at present from both homegrown and bought food. We have entered Autumn here and conditions are cooling down while we still enjoy a bit of warmth.

I PROVIDE SUPPORT
for Self-Awareness, Self-Care, and Self-Expression. And nourishing diversity within wholeness of family.

TUESDAY'S THOUGHTS

As a mother, I find solace in my small garden to breathe, restore, and be nourished using my five senses. I feel fortunate to have a small town garden, and I try to make the most of it to support my simple life-rhythm to care for myself and my family.

Making quiet spaces within the flow of my day is essential. Running my healing service-business from home while supporting my 17-year-old's Year 11 homeschooling requires calm self-management and intentional balance with my receiving and giving of my energy. I have to be aware of my natural limitation and possibility.

As a life-partner and mother, I find that cooperation rather than compromise is key. My experience is that it speaks to each individual's core healing and inner harmony when we can be our whole true nature and contribute our strengths as part of our family wholeness. In this reality, I consider each as being no greater or less than another, and I nourish self and others to be strong and self-responsible in our self-care and self-expression.

I begin and end each day either in my garden or taking a simple, short walk in the fresh air to notice life and nature around me. Inspiration is never far away to uplift and broaden my perspective and humble me. I listen within to my wise sense-of-self and conscience for wholeness. I am always grateful that it is not just me and my natural skills, but that I am fortunate to share my life with other loving, skilful people.

These photos are of my early autumn garden harvest today. And my plate of vegetarian lunch including homegrown avocado, sorrell, and chilli with local store-bought seasonal veg.

I encourage you to grow your own chemical-free vegetable, fruit, and flowers in the soil, water, and sunshine that are available to you; even if it is only a small pot of herbs. It is worth it in SO many ways.

UNDERSTANDING OUR OWN NATURE is a compassionate, practical way to lead our own life of well-being. What is healing and possible for one nature may be harmful to another, and no-one else can know how we experience life from within our own body, mind, and heart. We might find it hard to articulate our needs. Or, we might voice what we feel and need but others might dismiss, ignore, or not hear us.

It is of greater assurance to know and accept the truth of our own nature with its limitation and possibility. This empowers us to take our own action to choose our healing daily inputs, digestion, and use of energy.

I have found Ayurveda with Jyotish to be truthful, compassionate tools for my self-awareness and simple life-rhythm. They have been especially helpful for understanding my children’s natures as distinct from my own and my husband’s. They have helped us solve digestive, behavioural, and life-focus problems. That is why I share these teachings with others so you can benefit from them also.

BRINGING BALANCE TO INDIVIDUAL AND COLLECTIVE NEEDS

JYOTISH
At this FULL MOON in Leo (Purva Phalguni) it is an important time to cultivate integrity in our sacred partnerships, especially where children are concerned. We can notice what is healing and possible for us to take action on, while supporting our loved ones to do the same. We can be responsible for what we choose and make personal effort to create in our life, with peace and intention.

AYURVEDA
It is early autumn here, and I am grateful for the growing abundance of figs in our garden. These are a sattvic food, supporting balanced digestion with elements of earth and air and tastes of sweet and astringent. Figs can be used as both a sweet and savoury accompaniment, best eaten ripe, just as they are off the tree.

AT A MOTHER'S SELF-AWARENESS, I help individuals turn self-doubt into unwavering trust. This is a gentle, supportive listening and conversation space for you to be seen, heard, understood, and empowered in your wholeness of body, mind, and spirit. I help you listen within to your true needs, lead your life of balance, and speak for yourself. And nourish your child's wholeness as distinct from your own.

In Rhythm with Wax and Wane ...

JYOTISH
New Moon in Aquarius (Dhanishta Nakshatra).
17th February, Melbourne, VIC, Australia

At this low inner tide it is good to take some time to rest and restore. We can give ourself the gift of quiet presence to listen within to our conscience and feel our inner convictions. We might ask ourself: How do I need to channel my energy? What needs my strength, courage, and love? What do I need to accept and let go of? What is truly worth repurposing and refining?

AYURVEDA
We are experiencing dynamic weather conditions here with hot and cool temperatures. It is generally dry with an inkling of humidity. I am paying attention to what needs water and nourishment to flourish in the coming cycle, while reorganising with conscience and clarity. Light, warm, unctuous food with cleansing bitter and astringent taste is balancing right now. And I feel the need to stay present and grounded in my body and nature, and keep my power of attention.

My youngest child has turned 17 so I am gently redirecting my time and energy while being wholly present when needed. It takes a while to redirect my emotional energy and open my heart to include and support inner care for others.

INNER HARMONY AND LIFE-FOCUS
At Blue Sparrow Ayurveda, we use Ayurveda with Jyotish as a holistic scaffold for your objective awareness and compassionate self-inquiry. I provide a gentle, supportive space for you to be seen, heard, understood, and empowered in your nature of love, strength, and purpose. We focus on your self-awareness, self-care, and self-expression. This supports your inner harmony and life-focus, and helps you nourish the diversity of natures within the wholeness of your family.

In support of Josey Crane Burrows'

AYURVEDA:
It is early autumn here, with dynamic temperatures transitioning from hot to cool. This is a temperate, fertile region and so we see dry, brown expanses amongst green. Crepe myrtle is flowering, roses are blooming, and our mandarin tree is budding even though the earth feels dry to touch. Our plumb tree is abundant with fruit, and nets are not stopping other nature from taking their share, causing my husband to harvest fruit to make jam and sauce. Plumbs reflect seasonal predominance of sour taste with Earth and Fire elements. Although a fruit not a vegetable, we can use plumb in many ways including as a chutney for delicious accompaniment to a vegetarian meal. We can balance sour inputs with sweet, nourishing qualities and moderate tonics of pungent, salty, astringent, and bitter tastes.

JYOTISH:
Honouring this Ashleshan Full Moon in Cancer and our deep sensing of the Earth; our ability to directly observe, and experience through our five senses – our natural feedback system that shows us what is good and not good for us. We would not abdicate our own sensory intelligence or cloud it with intellectual ideas, opinions, attitudes, judgements, or beliefs. We must trust what our senses directly show us and use our awareness to discern what to do next.

In our human nature, Ashlesha is the mother’s power to protect her treasure, her young, through transcendent sense and feeling, as a Life in its own right. We must know when to release our grip. We can choose to be in our senses but not be ruled by them. Our senses and feeling help us be present in our body and keep our own power of attention.

At this high tide, sensory experience may be strong. Thought and feeling may rise to the surface. We can keep inner distance to observe our river of thought and feeling. We can be present with ourself to listen within and hear the truth of our heart beating. We might ask ourself: What inspires my life and love? What do I need to accept and release myself from? What do I need to learn? Is my conscience clear - am I doing all I can for well-being of my body, mind, and heart? What “treasures” am I thankful for?

I know how it feels to be silent, invisible, and directionless with big tides of mental and emotional energy. Thankfully, I have learnt some simple ways to be established in my heart; to observe, choose, and move thought and feeling so it does not stay contained as confusion, self-loathing, or physical dis-ease, or get armed out as blame. I share these at Blue Sparrow Ayurveda.
