Roger Federer has always been an idol of mine, not just because of how good he was, but because of how he played the game mentally.
In this clip he talks about how tennis isn’t about winning every point. Even the best players lose a lot of them. What matters is being able to put the point behind you and focus on the next one.
That idea comes up all the time in counselling, especially with young people. It’s so easy to get stuck replaying mistakes:
• something you said
• something that didn’t go to plan
• a moment you wish you could redo
But one rough moment doesn’t define you. And it doesn’t have to ruin the rest of your day.
Learning to pause, reset, and move on is a real skill. Not ignoring what happened — just not dragging it into the next moment.
You don’t need to be perfect.
You just need to give yourself permission to start the next point.
