Yoga Shala Space YOGA SHALA SPACE was been created by yoga and meditation teacher Michelle Gregg-Rowan in 2015 Shala is an ancient Sanskrit word meaning ‘home’ or ‘abode’.

YOGA SHALA SPACE was founded by local, experienced yoga teachers, Michelle Gregg-Rowan and Annie Fogarty. As dedicated yoga practitioners, Michelle and Annie believe that there is a yoga style to suit everybody, and they are passionate about offering a studio space that is beautiful, full of integrity, and run by skillful, non-dogmatic, warm and compassionate teachers.

Please join me, and Traditional Chinese Medicine practitioner and acupuncturist Bianca Dansie, for a very special Spring immersive retreat focusing on the Liver and Gall Bladder, the organs governed by the Wood element and the Spring season.

I am so excited to be sharing this intimate day of yoga, meditation, ancient TCM teachings and delicious seasonal food with you! It will be a beautiful, safe and heart warming container in which to gather and feed all the senses, a place and space to practice, contemplate, and most importantly, rest deeply into the compassionate embrace of Spring. SPRING YIN DEEP STILLNESS PRACTICE

Well it has been awhile, but I am very happy to be offering another of our well loved seasonal Yin Deep Stillness practices, this time in honour of the Spring season and all its glory. The sweet sound of birds nesting, the scent of blossoms, the gentle warmth of the sun(between the rain!), spring always brings with it a sense of renewal, optimism and fresh ideas and inspiration. Yet despite the undeniable 'growth' that is all around us in nature, we, with these human bodies, minds and hearts, can sometimes need a little encouragement and help in moving into the new season with as much ease and grace as the natural world!

So please join me in welcoming in these changes on October 30th, 2-5PM, when we will focus on the Liver and Gall Bladder, the organs governed by Wood and the Spring season. According to TCM and the Five Elements Theory, the Wood element that is associated with Spring not only enhances our capacity to birth new ideas & make changes, it also brings with it a greater ability to generate clear intentions so that, like Nature, we can move into this new season with renewed clarity and energy. Like the trees around us, when balanced the Wood element enables us to bend with the winds of life and be flexible when required, while simultaneously being stable, strong, well rooted and grounded...qualities we all need in order to navigate this human existence.

In this extended practice time together we will look at Yin asana(postures), pranayama(breath), meditations and Nada Yoga(sound) to help nurture and prepare us physically, energetically, emotionally and mentally for the re-awakening that is happening within and all around us. Like caterpillars emerging from their cocoons after a long hibernation, the emergence can be a little scary and uncomfortable, but the promise of exploring with new wings is forever enticing.

YIN, MINDFULNESS & THE ENERGY BODY
November 3rd, 10th, 17th & 24th

Please join me for a four week course were we will explore the Four Foundations of Mindfulness as laid out by the Buddha in the Satipatthana Sutta, “The Discourse on the Foundations of Mindfulness". The Buddha opens this teaching by declaring that the four foundations of mindfulness are the “one-way path” for the overcoming of suffering and the attainment of nirvana(the state of profound well-being).

Each week we will focus on one of the foundational mindfulness teachings, while also exploring a particular organ network system and its related meridian/energy channels through the Yin practice. Each class will include music, readings, and plenty of time for inner reflection and mindful cultivation, a 90 minute offering of deep, rich rest and nurturing for the body, mind and heart.

To help support your experience you will have access to the class recording for one week so you can revisit the practice as often as you like. Additionally, anyone who registers can access the recordings, so if you can't make the time, or need to miss a week, you can still enjoy the practices.

So potent and a reminder of women's power

🌟They told you about the contractions, but did they tell you about the expansion? Did they tell you how your body would open to make way for the whole universe to pass through? Did they tell you how your heart would explode with a love bigger than anything you’ve ever known as you pulled your baby to your chest?

🌟They told you about the ring of fire but did they tell you about the crown of stars? Did they mention that there’s a moment when your baby enters the world and you leave your body and touch the heavens and become the light of a million galaxies? Did they tell you how the pain of stretching to receive your child would be more exquisite than any sensation you've felt?

🌟They told you would scream but did they tell you about how would you roar? Did they tell you about the power that would rise up from your belly as you called your baby forth with your mighty voice? Did they tell you how you would embody the wild woman within you as breathe fire with your song?

🌟They told you would bleed, but did they tell you how that sacred blood wouldn't scare you? How you would feel grateful for that magical liquid of life as it trickled down your leg - how you would honour its flow and how it would help you heal a lifetime of hating your body's bleeding cycle.

🌟They told these stories and taught you to fear birth, to fear your power, to fear yourself. But you are stronger and wiser than that mama. You know that birth is your divine dance, your soul's song, your moment with God, and you walk fearlessly into her open arms.

Welcome everyone to 2021, a whole New Year full of uncertainty for sure, but also limitless possibility.

As we reflect back on 2020, over the months of isolation, loss, cancelled plans, closed studios, thwarted hopes, and for many, despair, the essence of the wisdom teachings is clear…..to surrender(again and again), to stay open while letting go of expectations, and most importantly, to pay attention, and be present for, what IS here, in this moment.

It is an honour to be able to continue sharing this journey with you all….last year showed us more than ever how inextricably inter connected we all are. We really have no idea what is around the corner, or what the year ahead will hold, but just as every time the sun rises to greet a new day, we have the opportunity to begin again, to show up, to commit to a life of compassion, kindness, care and integrity, to enjoy each and every breath as the gift that it is.

As we approach the end of the year and finish off our classes together for 2020, I want to say a very heartfelt thank you to everyone who supported us during this uncertain time. Your presence in practice via Zoom, and messages of appreciation and encouragement have been such a gift. Wishing our beautiful community, and all beings everywhere, a peace filled and restorative holiday season.
We look forward to welcoming you back to the studio in the New Year. In the meantime please get in touch if you would like some online classes to carry you over the coming weeks, or if you have any feedback on how we can continue to be of service in the months ahead.

Welcome back to our Spring Term at Yoga Shala Space....the perfect season to commit to a regular yoga and mindfulness practice in order to shed the heaviness(mind, body and spirit) of Winter. This year, more than ever, the gifts of spring seem particularly poignant. Spring is a time of rebirth, and just like nature all around us, now is the time to once more unfurl and open up with a renewed sense of vibrancy, grace and commitment to the beauty of life as it is. Spring brings with it the promise of new beginnings, and asks us to meet whatever arises with flexibility and maturity, to adapt to the never ending, and unexpected, changes that life holds.

There is a long way to go, both locally and internationally in our fight against racial injustice and discrimination, however it is clear that individually, and as a community, we can, and must, play a pivotal role in creating the change we want to live.
