🌺 Remembrance Day 🌺
Today, we remember and pay tribute to all those who have served our country with courage, dedication, and selflessness.
At the 11th hour, on the 11th day, of the 11th month, we pause to remember the men and women who gave their lives for our freedom, and we extend our heartfelt gratitude to all veterans for their service and dedication.
As we come together in reflection, we also acknowledge the families who carried the weight of their loved ones’ service and the generations who continue to uphold their legacy.
At 11am, we stand together in silence to remember, reflect, and give thanks.
Lest we forget.

Rankins Funerals have operated in Warrawong since 1963. From humble beginnings in 1963, Rankins Funeral Home has achieved 50 years of caring for the Illawarra community.
Bill Rankin, with the simple idea of serving the community, established the business in 1963. His founding ideology remains a cornerstone of the Rankins business and the 100 per cent local family owned company is now a renowned leader in the funeral profession. Over the last half a century, the funeral industry has undergone much transformation, but the dedication and caring of the professionals at Rankins remains unchanged.
“We take pride in playing such an important role within the community,” said Barry Ryan, Manager at Rankins. “There have been many changes over the past 50 years and as an industry leader, Rankins has not only adapted to social, spiritual and cultural needs and expectations, we have been at the forefront of this change.”
To meet the diverse needs of the community, in November 2004 Rankins moved from the original site in Greene Street, Warrawong to brand new premises in Cowper Street. Two years of building, design, extensive consultation and a dream is realised.
The result is a modern building designed to provide a comfortable and peaceful environment for grieving families. It houses an arrangement room, a chapel complete with in house sound and recording facility and TV for photo-story slideshows, a refreshment area, mortuary and a showroom for coffins.
“With the move to the new premises, and the advances in technology, we are able to offer a more personalised service,” said Barry. “50 years ago, funerals were predominantly conducted in churches, and today there are many more choices. Whatever one’s beliefs, culture or religion, Rankins can organise a meaningful service for each and every family.
We recognise that the service itself is an integral part of the grieving process. “We generally meet people on the worst day of their lives,” she said. “I believe its part of our role to help and support people through this difficult time.” To demonstrate that commitment, Rankins offers free Grief Support evenings to families and friends. “Whether it’s 1963 or 2015, bereavement and death are devastating to families,” said Barry. “The grief support evenings are one way to help find a way through the loss and change.”
The Rankins team are honoured to have reached the half-century milestone and as the world continues to change, may the genuine caring and compassion of the Rankins staff continue to comfort people for at least another 50 years. Congratulations on this most worthwhile achievement.
