Do you drink coffee before eating your breakfast?

Fueling up on a nutritious protein rich breakfast before coffee stabilises your blood sugar levels and helps to support sustained energy throughout the morning and reduces sugar cravings later in the day.

☀️ Embrace the Morning Sunshine for a Radiant Day! ☀️

Did you know that catching those early rays of sunlight can have a profound impact on your overall well-being? Getting sunlight on your face as soon as possible after waking :

🔆 Natural Mood Booster:
Morning sunlight exposure stimulates the production of serotonin, often referred to as the “happy hormone.” It sets a positive tone for the day, helping to improve mood and reduce feelings of stress.

🌞 Regulate Your Body Clock:
Sunlight is a powerful cue for your circadian rhythm, signaling to your body that it’s time to wake up. This helps regulate your sleep-wake cycle, promoting better sleep quality and overall energy balance.

💡 Enhance Mental Alertness:
Sunlight exposure, especially during the morning hours, boosts alertness and cognitive function. It can enhance focus and concentration, making those early work tasks feel more manageable.

🌈 Boost Vitamin D Levels:
Sunlight is a natural source of vitamin D, a crucial nutrient for bone health, immune function, and overall well-being. So, that morning sunlight isn’t just lifting your spirits—it’s also supporting your physical health.

🌱 Promote Healthy Skin:
Moderate exposure to morning sunlight helps your skin produce vitamin D and promotes a healthy glow. Just remember to use sunscreen if you’ll be out for an extended period!

🌄 Create a Morning Ritual:
Start your day with a mindful ritual outdoors. Whether it’s a brisk walk, stretching routine, or simply enjoying a cup of tea on the balcony, incorporating morning sunlight into your routine can set a positive tone for the rest of the day.

⏰ Timing Matters:
Ideally, aim for 15–30 minutes of morning sunlight exposure. This can be done by taking a walk, having your morning coffee on the porch, or doing some light exercises in your backyard.

Do you have a favorite morning sunlight ritual! ☀️🌿

You will have seen that I've been sharing a lot lately about my experience with the continuous glucose monitor.

Achieving optimal blood sugar balance isn't just for diabetics. When your blood sugar levels are balanced you are more likely to experience:

😛steady energy (no afternoon slump)
🍏easier weight maintenance/weight loss (if that's your goal)
💜less brain fog
👍improved and more stable mood
🥵less/no hot flushes
😴improved and deeper sleep

By keeping your blood sugar levels stable, you're setting yourself up for a happier, healthier life with less pain, inflammation and optimal function.

Continuous Glucose Monitor Observations

I understand from a physiological perspective from hours or learning and studying the impact that stress has on our bodies. I understand the stress, cortisol, blood sugar relationship but seeing it first hand is really interesting 🤓

The photo below shows my readout from my continuous glucose monitor on Saturday.

I ate the same breakfast that I’ve been eating everyday since I’ve been wearing my CGM. At lunch time I ate 105g prawns and 125g mixed vegetables cooked in some oil and a little pesto. Saturday night I didn’t have a “proper” dinner. We were at a friends birthday and I was picking at cheese, crackers, fruit, chicken and finished off with a slice of very decent and delicious chocolate fudge cake. I didn’t drink alcohol just mineral water 🧁🍓🧀🍇

The interesting thing to me is I experienced a short stress/fear response around lunch time on the Saturday which can be shown with the change in my heart rate variability measured by my oura ring (photo 2) and the change to my blood sugars at this point raised then higher than they went after grazing all night and eating chocolate cake!!

The takeaway for me here is I really need to look at my stress management/handling as it’s having so much more of an impact than I ever understood previously.
