Maturation arrest acne & acne cosmetica; lets delve deeper into these subtypes of acne ⬇️
Maturation arrest acne occurs when the skin cells and sebum don’t shed properly, which then plug our pores. This then leads to small, non inflamed congestion that appears to be sitting under the skin. Our skin cell turnover is may have slowed down so it’s needing some stimulation. Exfoliating treatments, hydration, extraction, Vitamin A and EFA’s will greatly benefit this type of acne.
Whereas, acne cosmetica is congestion formed from the use of cosmetics. Foundation, concealer, powder products, tanning solutions are all common triggers. Acne cosmetica could develop if you are reactive to the products, not cleansing your face properly or wearing and reapplying these products for long periods of time. Best treatment? Removal of the triggers.
