Here are five signs to watch out for in your child that may indicate it’s time for an eye test! 👁️‍

🤔 Squinting
Squinting may be a sign that your child is trying to see more clearly by reducing blurriness caused by refractive errors such as short-sightedness, long-sightedness, or astigmatism.

📺 Moving closer to see things
If your child often moves closer to the TV at home or the whiteboard at school, they may be having trouble seeing clearly from a distance.

👀 Eye turn
If you notice one eye turning inwards or outwards, this could indicate that the eyes aren’t working well together. This can impact vision development, particularly in young children.

🫣 Covering one eye
Covering one eye may be your child’s way of coping with double vision or blurred vision in one eye.

🤕 Complaints of headaches
Frequent headaches, especially after reading or doing close-up tasks, can be a sign of eyestrain or an uncorrected vision problem.

👓 If you notice any of these signs, it could be time for a visit to the optometrist!

Today is World Sjögren's Day 👁️💧, and so we would like to shed some light on this lesser-known but impactful condition affecting millions worldwide.

Sjögren's Syndrome is an autoimmune disorder where the body's immune system mistakenly attacks its own healthy glands — most commonly the moisture-producing ones that produce saliva and tears. This often leads to dryness especially in the mouth and eyes.

Common signs and symptoms of dry eyes include:
🚨 Redness
🔥 Burning or gritty sensation
🌬️ Sensitivity to light and/or wind
😴 Tired eyes
🌫️ Blurry vision

While there is unfortunately no cure for chronic dry eyes, various lifestyle modifications as well as targeted treatments are available to alleviate symptoms and manage the condition. Things that you can modify at home include:

💧 Lubricant or dry eye drops: Lubricant drops, also commonly known as artificial tears, replenish the moisture on the surface of your eyes to keep them comfortable and alleviate symptoms of dry eyes.

👁️ Blink Regularly: Staring at screens for prolonged periods can lead to decreased blinking, which in turn can worsen dry eyes. Make a conscious effort to blink regularly, especially when using digital devices.

💨 Use a Humidifier: Dry indoor air can contribute to dry eye symptoms. Avoid drafts from heaters or air-conditioners. Using a humidifier in your home or workspace can help add moisture to the air.

🕶️ Protect Your Eyes: Environmental factors like wind, smoke, and dust can aggravate dry eyes. Wear wrap-around sunglasses or protective eyewear when outdoors to shield your eyes from these elements.

🥗 Follow a Balanced Diet: Omega-3 fatty acids, found in fish, flaxseeds, and walnuts, have been shown to improve dry eyes and support overall eye health.
