St John of God Warrnambool Hospital is a 73-bed private hospital situated in south-western coast of Victoria, with services reaching into rural Victoria and South Australia. We are a division of St John of God Health Care, the largest Catholic not-for-profit health care provider in Australia. Our Health Services Centre provides a range of outpatient services, including rehabilitation programs. On-site consulting suites and regular visits from medical and surgical specialists eliminates the need for people to travel for medical care. Established in 1939 St John of God Warrnambool Hospital has an emphasis on patient-focused, values-based care. Our latest independent satisfaction surveys where inpatients rated us at the 97th percentile, and day surgery patients at the 99th percentile for public and private hospitals, representing the highest ranking Australia-wide for a hospital our size. We strive to serve the common good by providing holistic, ethical and person centred care and support.

At the end of last year, we farewelled Paul and Gill from St John of God Warrnambool Hospital.

Together, Paul and Gill dedicated more than 63 years of service to our hospital, which is an incredible achievement and a testament to their commitment and care.

They will both be greatly missed by caregivers across the hospital. We are sincerely grateful for the support, professionalism and kindness they have shared with so many over the years.

We wish Paul and Gill all the very best in their retirement and in everything that lies ahead. Enjoy this well-earned next chapter.

This week we proudly joined the nation in celebrating 50 years of NAIDOC Week, reflecting on the legacy of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples and looking ahead to a future led by strength, culture, and unity.

The 2025 theme, “The Next Generation: Strength, Vision & Legacy,” honours the resilience of Elders and the leadership of today’s young First Nations voices. Across SJOG Warrnambool, our caregivers took time to recognise this important milestone through vibrant NAIDOC Week displays, storytelling, and reflection.

A special thank you to our teams who wore their “50 Years of NAIDOC” shirts with pride, helping to create a welcoming and respectful space for cultural learning and connection.

Together, we continue to walk the path of reconciliation. Acknowledging the past, celebrating the present, and supporting the next generation.

This week, we celebrate the heart and soul of our hospital — our incredible volunteers.

From offering a warm welcome as you walk in the doors to providing comfort and companionship to our patients, our volunteers bring a unique warmth and kindness that truly makes our hospital a special place.

Their generosity of time and spirit enriches the lives of everyone who walks through our doors. Quite simply, we couldn’t do what we do without them.

Thank you to each and every one of our volunteers — your dedication and compassion are deeply valued and appreciated.

Introducing Our New Strategy: Every Moment Matters

Today, we celebrate the launch of the new St John of God Health Care Strategy, set to guide our mission from 1 July 2025. At St John of God Warrnambool Hospital, this strategy reinforces our dedication to compassionate, committed, and connected care—because every moment matters.

The Strategy outlines five key priorities: Sustainability, Care Journey, People First, Integrated Care, and Community Impact. These focus areas will drive how we continue to deliver exceptional, patient-focused care to the Warrnambool community, building upon recent advancements such as the introduction of robotics into our theatres.

As we continue to serve the people of south-western Victoria and South Australia, we look forward to a future shaped by innovation, compassion, and community connection.

Today, we commemorate Good Friday - a day that holds immense significance on the Christian calendar. For St John of God Health Care, it serves as a poignant reminder of our commitment to continuing the healing mission of Jesus. As we pause to reflect on this day, may we consider the opportunities in each moment to offer healing and hope to those in our care and those we work with.
