What are your food triggers? πŸ₯™Does it bring on bloating, discomfort, gas, constipation/diarrhoea? πŸ’¨πŸ˜₯πŸ’©

Here are the most common IBS trigger and a food swap that may be a better option for you:

1. Conventional Dairy - swap for raw diary (cold-pressed) this keeps all the enzymes of the milk in tact to aide in digesting the milk. πŸ₯›
2. Wholegrains - swap for soaked or sprouted grains reducing antinutrients and predigesting hard-to-digest compounds in the wholegrain.🌾
3. Fried Foods - Foods are usually deep friend in highly unstable oils which are inflammatory for the gut, swap for healing whole fats like butter, avocado or coconut oil. 🧈
4. Regular bread - commercial yeasts and additives in bread can be irritating for the gut, sourdough rye bread that is yeast-free is a much better option.πŸ₯–
5. Processed meats - swap the gut irritating additives for quality organ or muscle meats (free-range and grass-fed). πŸ„
6. Alcohol - swap for fermented probiotic kombucha 🍹
7. Beans and legumes - same principle as wholegrains, swap for soaking or sprouting. 🌱

Are you a worrier? 😟 A ruminator? 😨 An overthinker? 😰

IBS sufferers are often told their anxiety will exacerbate their gut issues, but aren't often reminded that the reverse is true. The source of brain fog, worry and anxious thoughts could also stem from an unhealthy gut. My clients rarely (probably never) have one without the other. 🀯

Digestion has two dimensions - a physical dimension and a mental/emotional and spiritual dimension. 🐚

Physical digestion processes food and drink, separating what is useful πŸ₯— to be utilized by the body and what is not useful, harmful or toxic ☣️ which is discarded by the body.
In the same way, our digestion has a role in processing thoughts, feelings 🧠 and ideas πŸ’‘; separating what is useful from what is not; utilizing what is, and letting the others go πŸ•Š.

Habit #7 in the 7 habits (last one! Woo!): Its the day for 7s! 7 minutes of exercise for 7 days - easy right?

πŸ€Έβ€β™€οΈ7 minutes of moderate-intensity of movement came as a huge trend a few years back. What I love about it is that it offers optimal health whilst combatting some barriers people face when it comes to exercise which are commonly:

"I don't enjoy exercise"
"I don't have time to exercise"
"I have nowhere to exercise"

πŸƒβ€β™€οΈI love to move, but sometimes time can be in issue and I can't make it to a Pilates class everyday. Perhaps you relate with one of those statements too. The good news, is that it takes 7 minutes - there's a load of apps for 7 minute workouts, or you can decide to go for a 7 minute run, bodyweight exercises that get your heartrate up or have a good 7 minute boogie in your lounge room! πŸ’ƒπŸ©°

How are you moving today?

And that was 7! Download the Gut Renewal Planner to kick start your gut renewing today! πŸ’Œ Check out the link in the bio :) xπŸ₯°

Habit #6 in the 7 habits: If it could be hobby, it would be mine! It seems in an age of bed time scrolling, working late nights and early mornings, getting to bed at a decent time can be a challenge. Can you get to bed before 10pm for 7 days in a row?

πŸ•™Prime time to be asleep for optimal recovery, restoration and renewal of energy and the gut lining is between 11pm-5am at night according to the Chinese Medicine theory of the organ clock.
πŸŒ„Sleeping at sundown and rising with the sun is important for circadian rhythm and hormonal regulation.
πŸ›ŒSleep is also a matter of quality and not just length of time in bed - vivid dreaming, light sleep or frequent waking are all signs of low quality sleep.

Habit #5 in the 7 habits: Take a breath and reach for the ground!
Few tips for breathwork and a grounding practice to calm the vagus nerve and nourish the gut-brain axis:

- Take deep belly breaths and a longer exhale than your inhale (repeat this 10-20 times a day) πŸ§˜β€β™€οΈ
- Go outside and plant two feet firmly on the ground (preferably on grass or earth) and smell the flowers around you. 🌸

There are a thousand ways to do breathwork and grounding and I'm more than happy to share more, reach out if you're interested!

Habit #3 in the 7 habits: The answer is yes! You would like your food not to be irritating and inflaming your gut.πŸ™ƒ

- Refined sugars especially in packaged foods with other food additives contribute to dysbiosis in our gut microbiota and inflammation in our guts. 🦠
- Seed-oils are highly inflammatory to the body due to the disproportionate content of Omega-6 to Omega-3 fatty acids which are highly unstable when cooked.πŸ€’
- A simple rule is to reduce foods that come in boxes or packets which are very likely to include at least one of two of these dietary toxins.πŸͺπŸ§‹πŸ›’
